If you could be a snowbird

If you could be a snowbird, where would you fly to? The days are getting shorter and it won't be long until We'll want to escape the cold. My husband actually said something about wanting a winter home today. We really don't have alot of money but there probably are affordable places where you could own a few acres, park and camp on the property and be able to ride even in the winter. Chances are we'll spend the rest of our lives toughing out the Mn. winters but it might be fun to look and see what is out there. Does anybody know of a good place to spend the winter, preferably with horses?

Perhaps those that live in these areas would tell me it's not a good idea but the hubby and I have looked at property in the Ozarks, Mo- not as snow birds but to move there- in the end we decided to stay here...but it seems like you still get all 4 seasons but winters are much milder...otherwise, I'd say Kentucky as there again you get all four seasons, but not so bitter cold. When I lived in Ky. I rode all winter long, I remember Christmas caroling on horseback at 30 degrees and thinking I was freezing to death! LOL...of course that was before I moved here..now 18 yrs. later at 30 degrees I'm still wearing my spring/fall jacket.
Because I lived there previously and have friends in the area, I'd rather choose Ky over Mo, but anyway....
Otherwise, I used to wish I could move out to Virginia or Carolina's (been through there briefly, but romanticized that it'd be a great place for a hobby farm..)
Edited to add: oh or if I could really go for the gusto- New Zealand or Germany.

I suppose Baja California is a bit too far, huh?
Hmmm.... the thing is if you're in the middle of the country you get sloppy winters, too far west and the wind and ice, too far east and the ice
How about southern MN? Okay, no help. I guess I've heard MO is very nice too.

I'd go to Oklahoma or northern Texas...Kentucky and northern Alabama don't sound bad either for the winter months....Just my input - though I know I'm not much help!

I'd love to be a "snow horse" person--live in MN in the summer and park my enormous LQ horse trailer somewhere warm in the winter and ride out from that. I've met some people through Applejack who do that--one year they'll concentrate on the southwest, another year on the southeastern states, etc.

Oh to be independently wealthy and not have to wait to retire and do what I want (*eyes glazing over with thoughts of the spectacular horse trailer I'd have*)
