A show you do not want to miss!

http://www.mnhoovedanimalrescue.org/...allenge01.html

On the weekend of September 13th, the first ever Trainer's Challenge of the Unwanted Horse will be held at the Louise Leatherdale Center at the University of Minnesota. It is here, before a panel of judges, 12 trainers will demonstrate how they've taken a horse that no one wanted - a horse that came to them untrained and inexperienced - and with the right amount of time and investment in training, turned it into a horse who is now a willing companion.
But wait, there's more! Not only are these trainers going to demonstrate how they've taken this unwanted horse and turned it around into a willing, working companion, we said they're going to be judged on their work. And with this judgement comes recognition and a prize - a prize of $4,000 to be exact. Runner-up will also claim a purse of $1,500 in additon to the appropriate bragging rights.
Oh, but wait... there's more. After the dust settles and the applause has died off, we're going to have ourselves a horse auction. And as fate would have it, we happen to have 12 horses, fresh off of training, ready to go home with the highest bidder.
Would you like to bid on one of these horses? We really hope you do! But before you get all excited about the potential of adopting one of these fine animals, we ask that you pre-qualify. And how do you do that? It's easy:

What a great idea! Joanie, have you been to the U of M's new (well, not so new anymore) Equine Center? I've heard it's nice but haven't seen it myself.

adopting

Do they allow any horses to be adopted outside Minnesota? It states on the website they hardly ever do.

I saw the title to this thread and thought: what - a bovine dirt skiing demonstration, starring our very own pvf? (Sorry Marsha, but you told that story so well! )

There's something like this coming up in Sioux Falls, SD too. I'll post that on another thread....

I'd like to see that too. I met one of the trainers and saw her work a bit with the rescue horse a few weeks ago. He ( the horse) was still a bit thin and she (the trainer) probably felt she should explain, just said he was a rescue horse that she was working with. I found out later about the Trainer's Challenge and thought this was an incredibly neat way to promote the horses and the trainers at the same time.

Beaner, I don't know about MHARF's rules enough to answer, although I do send money every month to help out, them and that Rolling Dog rescue in MT.
Penny, I agree with you that it is a heckuvan idea, good for the horse to make it more adoptable, good for the trainer to get their name out. Just good all the way around.

I've been on their website Version and read some of the training journals--I am definitely going to try to attend this. Bonus that it's at the Equine Center at the U of M--I've been wanting to see that (without having a sick horse that is!)
