Is there a market for this horse/situation?

Im offering a 1986 (15.3hh, 1200lbs) registered Quarter Horse gelding for a full lease. He's very much so a been there, done that kind of horse. In fantastic shape, currently being used, knows WSCA games. Not for a beginner, but a confident young rider would have a ball.

Are people looking for this kind of horse in this area? Im in the Twin Cities west metro.

Leaser is responsible for all of his upkeep during length of lease. Im open to him being boarded at another facility.

Iv posted this horse on a couple sites, including horsetopia(as of tonight). I realise the markets horrid, but I would expect to have at least some little girls asking for more pictures... So far Iv only had one responce (on the bright side it wasnt some creep from Hungaria!) and we'll see what comes from that. *fingers crossed*

Why am I not getting any interest?! Even through word of mouth Im not getting much positive feed back.

All I can come up with is his age... would that scare you off? I dont see why it should... its a lease, the leaser is not going to be stuck with a retiree in a few years... what am I missing here?

Heres a photo of the horse taken yesterday.

What am I missing!?

The reason the market is poor is not a "fault" of supply side, its because there are fewer and fewer people who are using horses for any purpose. So no, there is absolutely nothing wrong with your horse, he's gorgeous and very appealing.

I'll keep him in mind though in case through word-of-mouth I discover someone looking. Perhaps if I were in your shoes I'd be asking around different barns that have trainers come out. I gotta imagine there are folks out there that would love to start riding but need help getting into it.

Hi I think he looks great. I would say that his age is the hold up. Also a intermediate rider might scare some advanced begginer off tho most kids young adults think they are better than they are. Also the fact that he might have leg issues ( but any horse of any age or disapline could have them) I would list that he is sound x-rays clean ( if he is /does) and his experiance / great teacher for someone looking to do LB HS rodeo or fun shows ( or what ever level he is at) Other wise he is a great deal for someone who can't buy right now and wants to ride. good luck

Thank you, please do that!

As I was driving home from work this afternoon I was thinking about driving in to some local barns and mentioning Cow and what Im offering... It would probably be akward, but heck, thats the story of my life.

We've never had him x-rayed. We bought him pretty cheap from someone we trusted and skipped out on a pre-purchase. Over the last year or so he's gotten a little stiff from arthritis, but nothing thats not managable or beyond whats to be expected.

I am totally willing to take him back too if he comes up lame... Am I coming off a bit desperate?

I do know of someone who wants him, but I really dont want to go there... My goal is to find someone more suitable by September... Anythings possible, anythings possible, anythings possible...

Listen, he's your horse and you have every right to ask for what you believe is best for you and Cow. Great name by the way

Sure there are awkward things out there to do, but ya know what? I find that 'cold calling' isn't as bad doing it but far worse thinking about it. I've done it lots of times for many different reasons and I've always had a good time.

If you have thought it out this far, tell me what you think the ideal situation/circumstance would be for Cow. Where, like in how far from you; what kind of home, you know is boarding okay or does it have to be at a farm, what kind of diet does Cow require? Anything special for his arthritis?

Thanks!

Well, Cow did something to himself out in the pasture and is now sore in his left hip. So frustrating.

Ideally Cow would be placed with someone who doesnt necessarily have to be experienced with horses, but has a relatively good seat and is open to learning. They just wants to go out there and hit the trails. Trailer him out to all if the parks, etc. Have fun basically.

His home must have safe fencing and adequate shelter, no more than 50 miles(maybe a bit more) away.

We feed Cow grass hay (alfalfa mix in winter), and Assurance senior feed. He also gets Seniorflex, flax, probiotics, and BL pellets. He doesnt necessarily need the three latter.
