Thumbs up Troy Mills, IA parade-Update - Rusty did GREAT!!!

The lady that I took Rusty to for consignment is planning on riding him in the Troy Mills (north of Cedar Rapids) parade tomorrow

I'm a big chicken when it comes to riding a horse in a parade unless they're really used to them But since he has had guns shot around him, fireworks, etc., and he is quiet she thinks he'll do fine I'm excited to see how he does

Yippee Rusty. I'm sure he'll give Sharon no problems. Heck, you could have done it too without issue. It is only Troy Mills. Isn't their main street 3 blocks long?

I'm with you. I'd love to do a Parade--but I'm afraid I'd be flying down Main Street hanging on to the saddle for dear life while my horse knocks over children in a blind panic!

I wouldn't worry about him flying down the road but its been my experience that sometimes kids/people get so close during a parade and if he did get a little jittery, which would be normal for the first time, he wouldn't have a lot of room to move.

I'm sure he'd probably be fine - I'm just a worrywart

Update - Rusty did GREAT!!!

Well I'm happy to say Rusty did WONDERFUL!!! He didn't like the school band drummers but walked past them anyway I was very proud of him. I guess I shouldn't be such a chicken

Sharon is supposed to saddle him, keep a line on him, and ride him while dragging some firework poppers After he did so well in the parade, even with the Blue Angel jets flying over, etc., I wouldn't be surprised if he does just fine with that. We have a hunting range, plus people are always shooting off fireworks in the county park next to the horses, and there's a campground across the river that ALWAYS has fireworks - you should have seen and heard them Friday night Rusty never pays any attention to them. If he does well with the poppers, there is someone who might be interested in him for a re-enactment event horse
