3 out of 5

Three out of five ain't bad. Well, finally! today I was on 3 of my 5 horses. It seems like it has been so hard to get going this year. It was awfully wet for a long time and then there was putting in the garden and trying to get caught up on so many things, the horses had problems too but today-July1_ everything worked out. Now if I can just keep going.

How is everybody else doing at spending time with their horses? Any good tips?-today I made myself ignore the backhoe working away in my backyard and decided if those workers didn't like how I looked on a horse they could look in another direction.

I totally understand about the backhoe AND the rain.

I don't have any riding horses right now but I make a point of grooming each of the three I have every single day. We also go for "walks" a couple of times a week and I'm sure I look like a displaced dogwalker in need of a fix but I don't care.

Most of our time is in the very early morning before work or around 8:00 in the evening. I find it is not hot and the horseflies are not out which puts all of us in a better mood.

In the last month when finally the weather broke, I've been doing much better with my "horsie" time. Not always a long time, but a few times a week (and not always riding) is a bit more than it used to be! It helps I have my riding mare back home, and I can take a kid or two on with me (like we did last night).

It's tough though.... even though I'm home with the kids, it's tough to get horsie time in when my youngest is only 16 months old. But, it's coming, and the hubby's been willing to help me work it out too, so it's all good. I took one of the boys on a wagon train a couple of weeks ago, and next week I get to go on another one all my myself (), so yes... definitely more horse'n around this summer than last.

One thing I've been surprised at is how little I miss the babies. I thought I'd miss not having one or two around; my youngest baby is now 4 and is on a breeding lease. It'll be at least 2010, maybe 2011, before I have another one, and amazingly that is fine with me.

I have been so-o-o frustrated with so many things this spring and thought I was mainly agitated because of the flood. Well, I took Rusty to a trainer/consignor and got in a ride with her and have felt s-o-o-o much better ever since!!! It did help that she was very encouraging and supportive - that's always nice.

Now I just want more riding time and a Pally

Between work and all the kids activities riding gets squeezed out. The only thing I've found that works is to plan horse stuff and put it in ink on the calendar. Then I feel like I've committed and will make the time.

I have this week off work (yay!) and we're taking our new horse (4 years old) on a trail ride today. I'm praying for a nice calm ride--keep your fingers and hooves crossed for us!

With County Fair coming up, we have really been putting time in the saddle. I have even had some time to work with my very green gelding. We have already been in two parades this summer and plan on being in one on Friday. Flies make it difficult but we shall prevail!

Now, if only I could hit some trails.

Bring a camera, especially with a camcorder

Version--I should've brought a camera. Our 4-year old Bud was great--my 15 year old mare who has (literally) hundreds of trail miles on her was afraid of a bunch of hay wagons Of course, my 13-year old daughter who was on Bud says it's all in the rider (smart aleck kid!)

BTW Version--love all your avatars. I never know what you're going to look like in the next post!

I'm hoping to get some riding time this weekend even if I have to ride one of my other geldings (one with heaves).

You just never know, huh Corporate. Funny... well, I love your daughter's comment, that's cute. I love to point out how Buster, Gerald's pride and joy spooks at stuff that doesn't even phase Peaches, who he calls brain damaged

I'm thinking that this Einstein isn't very appealing after all... I'll have to see what else I have, the last time I had pictures of me with my horses was winter - NO winter avatars allowed now
