Hay prices in north central MN?

Trying to figure out what to charge for timothy/brome/grass hay, square bales, out of the field. 60-75lb bales, should be very nice hay if we can ever get it baled. I was thinking $3 out of the field - too much or too little?

Since I'm not sure of the market in MN, I'll just let you know that $3 here in eastern Iowa is cheap, cheap, cheap for a small square! They have been going for between 5 & 6 bucks. Big rounds are going for $100 Do you deliver

I just bought timothy mix 60-70lb bales for $5 and they were still wet. But I needed hay, couldn't wait.

I also bought 50lb brome/alfalfa bales put up perfect for $4.20.

Both lots I bought at hay auctions. The going rate down here seems to be $4-5 for good size grass/mix bales. Haven't seen any alfalfa yet. 1000# rounds are going for $50-75 so far this spring. Everyone I've talked to says in order to make any money the minimum they can charge is $4 a bale for good sized squares and $50 for rounds. There is certainly no shortage of hay right now, it's the gas prices that are holding the price up.

my cousin just bought some hay in our area.. first cutting for really nice stuff. Timothy orchid alfalfa mix and delivered for 3.00 a bale they were 40-45 lbs each.
She bought it from a private party not at a hay auction which usually run alot higher in our area.

my dad bails up 800lb round bails and off of 60 acres he got 350 round bails. Everyone around us are having a bumber first crop..

Thanks you guys.

pvf, I think we are going to have a bumper crop too after all that rain; it's really thick out there. We only get one though off of our sandy soil.

I'm excited for this hay crop.. Were hoping that second cutting is going to be just as nice..

We have finished with or first cutting so I'm not sure what we will end up with. We have 35-40 acres to bail.

I'm on the eastern side of SDak...some friends of ours is our "supplier" for the bigger portion of the hay...she called and asked how much we needed...I said lets go for 400 bales...last year we got 387 plus 40 towards the end of the winter...then we got 141 off our acreage...that supplied 5 horses for the winter...barely...we ended up gettin 20 from other friends..then some corn bales to stretch the hay out...and some really crappy round bales that were given to us...last year we paid $2 a bale...then the friends that mowed/baled our land for us charged us a $1 per bale...well..because of the gas prices...etc....we are paying $3 per bale this year...that will be $1200 to START for hay this year...holy moly...thank god they're friends and let us make payments...hopefully Jim takes Sadie soon so we will be down to 3 for the winter...what really stinks is...I hadn't maxed out my car loan as I was saving the 1000 for hay...I work at a school..and we are out for the summer...I haven't found a job (the one offered doesn't start til next week) so..I had to max it to pay bills...am gonna have to hold this other job through the school year just to pay for hay....but I've checked hay at like the farm stores..and at Runnings in Brookings it was over $7 a bale...wow...my sister who is my insurance agent is gonna crap when I tell her to up the insurance on the buildings holding hay...she gives me crap because I pay more for feed and hay than what the horses are worth on the market...(she's not a horsey person)....how much is a bag of feed up to in you alls area? We buy by the pallet..which is 40 50 lb bags...comes to about 400$ or a little more...about 10-11 bucks a bag...individually they are about 14 to 15 bucks a bag...cheaper to buy in bulk...
