Flooding!

I just drove from the Mpls/St. Paul area to Milwaukee this weekend and couldn't believe the flooding and devestation. The interstate was closed so we had to take backroads--and saw many homes and farms virtually underwater.

Even though I've only met Applejack, PVF and Version in person (all super-nice people I might add) I kept worrying about all you HT'ers that might have been affected by the floods. Everyone OK?

We had about 5-6" water in our basement and we're not even in the 500 year flood plane!!! The water even went higher than the blocks we had stuff set up on and so we lost some furniture. A lot of the important furniture we set up on the pool table and its okay. The washer and dryer got a little water in them but they're working okay. We have cleaned up the 2" of mud all over our basement, torn off the last foot of dryway/insulation to give the studs a chance to dry, and sprayed with bleach water to kill the mold - I can't believe how fast that stuff grows When we were tearing out drywall a bunch of water came running out from under the shower and sink vanity so we're in the process of tearing those out It is very overwhelming and tiring. But we feel very fortunate because so many people lost everything, including 3 neighbors that live just down the road and our nephew and his wife who is due to have a baby in July.

Quilting I'm so sorry--we got water in our basement once and I know what a pain it is to clean up. Hopefully your insurance company will be good to you--hang in there--

We didn't have flood insurance because we're not even in the 500 year flood plane!!! Most people around here didn't because it has never flooded.

We are going to need a cheap/used:
Queen bed frame
32" square shower stall (walls and base)
shower faucets (no tub)
36" vanity (will reuse our old sink/counter)
2 pieces of linoleum (sp?) one about 8' x 5' and the other about 3' x 5'.

If anyone has any of these items and would like to get rid of them please pm me pics and a price.

This is the first day I can really talk about it all without crying. We feel guilty when we say too much and/or cry because we are so better off than so-o-o many people. But its still very hard.
