Looking for Beginner Horse
I am looking for a horse for my son who will be 10 this month and thought I would see if anyone knew of anything. We bought him an older gelding about a year and a half ago, and he has been absolutely perfect for him. I've never seen a horse more "bombproof" than this one, and he has been a huge confidence builder for my son. However, Brownie is getting older (we were told he was 18, but when we had his teeth floated, the dentist said he was pushing 30) and has some arthritis, and I'm not sure how much longer he's going to hold up for trail riding. It's really time for him to retire and just be a pasture ornament. We bought a horse a couple weeks ago that we thought was going to work, and she was great in the round pen, but when I rode her outside this weekend, she is way too much for him to handle, and I'm not sure that she'll calm down. My son is still a timid rider, and he needs something that's really broke. Nothing fancy, just something he can trail ride that is easy to handle, isn't going to take off if other horses do, doesn't spook easily, etc., etc. I can't afford to spend a fortune, but I also know horses like what I'm looking for aren't easy to come by or cheap to buy. I do have a 2 year old filly (or maybe another horse) that I might be willing to trade if someone was interested in that. Anyway, just thought I would see if anyone knew of anybody that had a horse that sounds like what I'm looking for. Oh, and I am in South Central Kentucky. Thanks a bunch!
