Looking for Beginner Horse

I am looking for a horse for my son who will be 10 this month and thought I would see if anyone knew of anything. We bought him an older gelding about a year and a half ago, and he has been absolutely perfect for him. I've never seen a horse more "bombproof" than this one, and he has been a huge confidence builder for my son. However, Brownie is getting older (we were told he was 18, but when we had his teeth floated, the dentist said he was pushing 30) and has some arthritis, and I'm not sure how much longer he's going to hold up for trail riding. It's really time for him to retire and just be a pasture ornament. We bought a horse a couple weeks ago that we thought was going to work, and she was great in the round pen, but when I rode her outside this weekend, she is way too much for him to handle, and I'm not sure that she'll calm down. My son is still a timid rider, and he needs something that's really broke. Nothing fancy, just something he can trail ride that is easy to handle, isn't going to take off if other horses do, doesn't spook easily, etc., etc. I can't afford to spend a fortune, but I also know horses like what I'm looking for aren't easy to come by or cheap to buy. I do have a 2 year old filly (or maybe another horse) that I might be willing to trade if someone was interested in that. Anyway, just thought I would see if anyone knew of anybody that had a horse that sounds like what I'm looking for. Oh, and I am in South Central Kentucky. Thanks a bunch!

Beginner Friendly Mare for sale

I have a 10 year old AQHA registered quarter mare. She is 14.3 hands. She has lots of trail riding experience and an excellent temperment. She is flea bitten grey. I just had her feet trimmed a few weeks ago. I am located in South Central KY as well (Horse Cave). The only thing is the mare has a colt that I cannot wean until at least July. If you might be interested let me know.

A friend of mine has a very broke 13 yo black/white tobiano SSHBEA mare for $550. Not sure if she is still available, but I could ask and get her opinion on child suitablity. She has children of her own so could tell you if she was suitable or not. The horse would be located in green county.
