Earthquake!

Yeppers...
Who would have thought, here in KY, that we'd be feeling an Earthquake at 5:36am ET??

Reports are that the epicenter is located in Vincennes, IL, and was rated as a 5.4. So, yes, that shaking that woke you this morning, was an Earthquake!

I slept through it, too. The Big Mr. was awake and said that it rocked our log home a good one.

I was awake most of the night, so yeah, I was awake for it. Down here it felt no different than the coal train that used to go by our house (tracks about 100 feet from the house). It was startling though...there's no train here.

Anyoen in a mobile home would understand when I say that it shook us worse than when the washer is really off balance... Except, we weren't doing laundry.

You guys are a lot closer to the center than I am, so I would imagine it was much stronger. Look at the damage done in Louisville... Here, none of my figurines moved, the baby's mobile hardly shook and Matt slept right through it.

Kind of eerie that it happened on the anniversary of the 1906 quake, huh?

Yup yup it woke my mother and I up. I was snuggled against the headboard and wall but woke up from a louder bang and my bed moving. I opened my window because I couldn't figure out why the house was shaking until it hit me what it was. I went downstairs and my mother came out of her room asking if I felt it. She's been through earthquakes before and they scare her.

I didn't even realize earthquakes were an option here! (I'm woefully ignorant of fault lines and such...but the mountains should have been a tip off...)

I was awake when the shaking happened and it was so weird! My first thoughts were "it's just the train", followed by "there is no train out here!". My next move was to wake Matt up, saying "earthquake", which he pretty ignored. I didn't even think to get out of bed, or bother the baby. I felt no panic or fear, I was just laying there, enjoying the feeling. (It was much like being in a boat.) When he got up, he turned on the news, saying beforehand it was probably a big explosion of some kind. (Last night was an active night for forest fires and calls for his fire department...)

Yup, we have the Wabash and New Madrid faults around here...just pray nothing big ever comes from the New Madrid and we might be good. After the Wabash earthquake today I can bet you they are watching the other fault like a hawk hoping the movement doesn't in turn make it move.

Slept right though it. Wasn't there a book written a few years ago about the Wabash fault and the scenario about the aftermath of such a massive quake in the center of the country? Heaven forbid if the New Madrid and the Wabash went off close together.

Yeah, My husband and I felt it.....we weren't asleep that well anyway up every hour checking on the mare....but I believe it was around 5am, I felt and heard something, sat up in bed and all the house cats went spastic, flying through the house like their butts were on fire.....it lasted a good 15 seconds.....

The Wabash Valley Fault is just north of the New Madrid..actually I believe the two are connected by a more minor fault system.

Very interesting stuff. The focus is usually on California, yet we have such a big potential here in our own backyard so to speak.

I can relate to that!! It woke me up! My bed was shaking and the cat was growling. All my pictures were shifted on the walls.

It woke me up the floor was shaking and so was my bed! My Aussie didn't make a peep in his crate so he must have slept through. One of my co workers thought when the bed started shaking her spouse was feeling frisky-she told him to stop she had to go to work in a few hours!!!
