My mare "izzy" registered Eternaly Golden had to be put down earlier this year after she suffered a broken leg. She had gotten loose from my husband and jumped a ditch on the property and somehow broke her leg. It was a crushing blow.

Izzy was my first horse in so very many years. I did not get a chance to get any really good pictures of her. We don't have many flat places here to work with but here's a couple that I like. She had THE most wonderful personality and would test you but her heart wasn't really in it. She also was a wonderful protector of our new foal at the time. In fact, I think she would have stolen that foal given half a chance. She would always keep herself between the fence/road and that baby. The baby's mom could have cared less. She also reared up and was going to whack one of our angus cows (I saw her do the on 2 separate occasions) and they were not even close enough where I was worried yet! She was just a very smart and very loving creature and I still miss her.

This one is from before I owned her with one of her foals:

Oh my how awful to lose your mare that way. Im so sorry for your loss.

Thanks guys. She was definitely special and I still cry when I think too much about her. She was the perfect horse for me to get after all those years away from them and she wrapped me around her big ole hoofs. Hmm... not sure if I got that plural right. I think it sposed to be hooves.

We went through that last year - it really is a tough one..

Thankfully, all we have is Dillon left for foals from 2007 - and he is almost as big as Smokey is now.. He is a definite stud propsect for us if he stays, we are down to the 6 mares we really can not part with, so excpet for this year's foals, we are at last where we no longer have to flip a coin...

Selling horses you love is really a tough one.. .

It's awful! And with horses so dirt cheap I see prospects every time I turn around. We are buying hay now too and I absolutely can't add more yet breeding season is right around the corner and though I know it would be much cheaper to buy the horse rather than breed it, I still would like to have some offspring from my favorite mares! (3 of them are in rip-roaring heat just now..ugh...)

It's maddening trying to decide what to do. I know I will have to reduce my little menagerie by at least 2 or 3 before next winter - especially if we decide to breed any of our mares. With any luck, we will have a good hay crop in the coming year. We ended up mowing a huge tract of land last year that had not been kept up so this year the quality and quantity off that piece should be better and bigger than last year. Maybe that will help Unfortunately, I don't have any that I could easily part with. I just gotta get psychic so I can win the stinking lottery

Aw, she reminds me of my filly I just sold. She would have been 3 this year and also only 13.3 hands so I sold her. Your girl looks like the palomino version of my Roxy who was sorrel. Her mamma - Bonanza's Honey Dee - was palomino though. Sometimes I wonder if she was just a late bloomer like you suggest. Of course if that is the case I would be kicking myself later once I found out.

Yeah, she is great little filly, no I wouldnt be upset of she grew later, I just dont have the time to wait and see, Ive got 8 in training, and I just need to move her because she will be too small for me to break when she matures a bit more, and the smaller ones unfortunately are the ones to go. If I tried to ride her later this fall, my feet would drag the ground

She is superbly bred and with her personality, Im sure she will make a great horse for kids or a smaller rider, then again she may grow into her genes and be a big ole gal like her mama

As many of you know, we are going to keep Dillon as a potential stud prospect, and therefor are going to offer Smokey for sale instead. The lady who was going to breed to him has had an accident with her mare, and will not be bringing her in. Sooooooooo, that means he is available now.

He leads, loads, ties, trims, is UTD on shots, wormings, etc.; I will be having a new coggins drawn on him in the next two weeks, he round pens, has been out with both mares and geldings, has been saddled, and should mature at 14.3. If he does not sell by May 1, he will be gelded, and then sent out for training under saddle. Of course his price will increase with training, and we will ride him until he finds a new home.

Smokey is not going to be the type of stallion that will cross well on our mares; however, he might work well for someone who would love to produce some POA's with color.. or someone who has stocky bulldog built mares. He would make an exceptional gelding if one were not interested in a stud.. (don't they all.. )

Here is his ad - we will try to get new photos in a couple of weeks when he sheds out a bit.. right now he is pretty hairy and fuzzy looking.. definitely not at his best.

More to go..

Hi guys,
Well, with everything going sky high, my Dad nearing 80, and my schedule at the office and hospital killing my horsey time, we have decided to sell/give some horses away. Most are young, ready to start, all fillies or mares.Possibly a few older broodmares/riders
Right now I have a red roan listed on HT(price neg),and a palomino filly whom I havent listed yet. Now I do have more, but these guys will be first to go.Then its on down the list.. I hate to do it, but surely there are still folks out there who are wanting a nice well bred prospect for a good price or maybe even "free" to the right person.... anyway if anyone wants more info, just Pm me.
