Exclamation ***Hurricane Ike***

This one warrants watching for those of us in South Fla. Heading for SE Fla and is NOW a CAT 4 Hurricane ..........

The steering currents are taking it right into SE Fla. I wish it would dip south of Fla !!!!!!

There is another one out there as well... Good grief what a season for you and the Gulf Coast..

Sending all the prayers I have that all of these stay out to sea..

I'm on the east coast just above the Palm Beaches. I wasn't concerned about Hanna but just to be sure made arrangements in case they are needed for my horses today. I just don't have a good feeling about Ike and we were hit twice just a few miles south of us in 2004 with Francis and Gene I think they were named so don't plan on having my horses go through a Cat 4. We have the hurricane windows that can withstand objects hitting them at 150 mph but don't really want to put them to the test while I'm in the house. Then I think OK, the windows can supposedly withstand so how about the roof?
I won't leave my horses in a barn. I did that once for the first time in 2004 and the whole roof blew off in one big piece. That was the first and last time. Mine go out in the largest pasture I can find and the fewest trees. If they need to run they can. The one problem I have is my pony is still a stallion so he's harder to place. My friend says she'll take him and she's inland (northeastern Okeechobee) but she'll have to put him in a stall as she's got 4 stallions right now.
So, holding my breath and watching. I so want to know what Weds looks like now so I can move them this weekend if need be. I don't wait until last minute, not with horses in a trailer.

Well, I am in Broward County, I guess that doesn't make it look very good for me this time!

Well, the last projected map I looked at put Savannah at the center of the cone...thrilling, NOT!

Don't drop your guard of this one guys...it could be real nasty for us SouthEast Coasters in the next week.

Sigh... I hope Ike weakens more by the time it hit's land...
I've been freaking out over it, and I never freak out over hurricanes!

I watched the weather this morning & as of right now, still heading up South Florida.... Wow, as if 2004 wasn't enough with 3 hurricanes to hit us in Polk County- oh joy... Well, one thing I can be thankful about is that I don't have horses now to worry about placing & worrying about, so I definetly sympathize with you that do!

Asof right now we are getting a really nie soakking from Hanna the eye is just off the coast but all of the rain is to the west of her. The latest advisory has Hurricane Ike headed straight for South Florida the beginning of the week it should hit.

I went through the 3 in Polk in 2004 - not fun.
Even in Polk, as far inthe middle as you get, the wind and tornado damage was extensive for Charley and Jeanne. (Francis had more flood damage.)

Make sure that you all prepare, "just in case".

Yeah... I'm already thinking of what I need to get.
We have a bazillion candles for when the power goes out (Because it will. Even in TS Fay it did..) and flash lights that also double as beacons..
Just need to buy some charcoal for heating up that great canned raviolli that I need to get and grilling whatever meat we have when the power goes out, water, all that good fun stuff...

Maybe I should buy some floaty rafts, too, since we flooded so bad through Fay

Yeah I hear ya, a little on edge. I am on the SW coast of Fla.

They have no clue where its going, local news stations, websites and The Weather Channel all have a different cone. It is so aggravating.

Latest looks like its heading more South b/f the 'suposeable' turn to the North.

My concern is if IKE does come across South Fla and then decides to head North I am in his "armpit" as a I call it, like the boomerang effect that Faye did to you guys in North Fla. I really don't want to be in the "armpit" of a Cat 4 storm for 3 days.

Another thing.........If we were to evacuate us and/or our animals, WHERE DO WE GO !!!!!!!!!!!!! My only place to go is North being in South Fla, but IKE is expected to turn North, so we are TRAPPED in a way.

Its very nerve racking. Alls we can do is pray, that he gets sucked up like Hannah did, but its not looking that way. Looking like a more West track than a NW track.

It would help if we knew where this thing is going. Do we evacuate, stay put?? I really don't want to be on the road, stuck in traffic pulling a trailer in the heat. Our barn isn't hurricane worthy and I hate the thought of leaving my babies out in a hurricane! We're in Brevard County so, if this thing stays south, we have a couple of pastures if anyone needs to head north. We also have a camper that sleeps several people that we can plug into the barn if you need it.

This is getting very old!!! and This one really is making me nervous - stupid stupid storms!! I'm in east Seminole county and my husband said if it makes land fall near us at a cat 2 or higher that we'll be leaving.... I'm like, uh-hum, what about the horses? I have 4 horses and a 3 horse trailer (eek). I don't have a large pasture to leave them in (just some turn-outs) nore enough stalls to keep them all inside (2 stall barn). I heard of a lady who put her horses in her garage.... I thought at the time that sounded absolutely crazy but perhaps it will be an option. But, you can't tell the husband (shhhhh).... he already thinks I'm nuts about them.

Well, I am waiting for the 11:00 advisory, at last call, I am in the path for a direct hit. I am in Broward County on the southeast coast not too far over the dade/broward line. I will be staying put. I have 22 horses here, 5 at my moms and 3 at the racetrack in dade county. My barn can sustain 180 mph winds, we have a generator big enough to run the house, the barn, everything. Not thrilled though!

Wow, Kanoo, I'll keep you in my thoughts! This storm looks pretty bad. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this thing takes some crazy last minute turn. I'm glad to hear that you can take 180 winds... that does help, but it'll still be real ugly. Check in from time to time..... seems that you are going to be the gauge we use.

Well, our Brevard County storm watch tree at Harris Corp. says it will be taking a SW turn then continue W... That's their prediction, at least... Here's what our website says:

"The latest advisory report at 11AM shows Hurricane "Ike" now a Category 3 storm located north of the Leeward Islands moving toward the west at approximately 15 mph with sustained winds of 125 mph. A slight turn toward west-southwest is forecast tonight or early Saturday with a turn back to the west expected by Sunday. On this track, Ike could be near the Turks and Caicos Islands and the southeastern Bahamas on Sunday."

This could be good news, depending on how south it goes...

In KatieMaes above picture, I am right where it stops @ 8am on Wed. About 40 miles inland...........

Still a real bad scenerio for Kanoo and I becaue we are both in the NE quadrant of the storm which is the worst. Also, there is no land to detroy this storm, all open water to just keep plugginh along.

I will know more Monday what I am doing w/ the horses. My barn can w/stand 150mph winds, but if I can get them out of there I will.

I am already on stand by for work (EMS) ............
