Oh, thank you! Thank you! The horse is absolutely beautiful. He was left a stallion until he was 8 or 9. She calls in a strawberry roan. I call him an eggshell buckskin. I have ridden him a bunch. No buck, kick, or bite. Just a little spook, but not really anything to worry about. He's fun to ride. His owner calls him ditzy. He'll get dithery about something, actually I never worried about that, just kept him going forward, and he was fine. He can get a little jiggy. I used to board him at my place and he can be pushy on the ground and you have to be real firm with him. I think his ground manners are the things she is most worried about. If you treat him very firmly, he's fine. He's very affectionate, loving, and sweet. He's got nice gaits, very forward moving. We trail rode together for a couple of years and he'd go anywhere on the trail. We crossed ditches and water regularly, and he'd go around the stuff we had to jump--narrow crossings around cables. His owner has always been very very careful with him, worrying about the slightest thing. So she wouldn't jump him when the rest of us jumped. He has white line disease which she keeps under control with treating his feet, but the fall has caused permanent damage to her eyes and the doctor doesn't want her bending over his feet to treat them.
He's an easy keeper with a sweet disposition, but I think the main thing is that he was a breeding stallion for 8 years and so he's a little strong on the ground. I never even shanked him when I would work with him, just be very firm with him, and he was fine. But I can easily see him taking advantage of a beginner. PM me and I will give you her phone number and you can go look at him. I moved away and she can't put pictures up with her computer. She really has been ruined--financially and healthwise. It was our final goodbye trail ride 3 days before I moved away when she got so badly hurt. Breaks my heart. For those of you who didn't read that post a year and a half ago, her horse had headed down a steep ditch and crossed some water when the little teen she had taken along could not do it. So she came back out of the ditch to encourage that horse (my horse, I am ashamed and sorry to say--but he normally does those things nicely) to come along. As she was encouraging the teen, her horse began moving forward and she reined him back, unfortunately a bit too sharply as she was concerned with the teenager. He backed into a horse sized sinkhole, fell in, couldn't get up, and churned her under his feet. He literally stood on her 4 times before he was able to scramble out of the sinkhole. She ended up with internal injuries and head injuries which we know now are permanent. She is the sweetest kindest person you'd ever want to meet. And now this terrible blow. I sure would love it if someone could help her out. She deserves something good in her life.

I am so sorry for your friend, what a terrible experience. Kudos to her for trying to do right by her horse. We do take horses that are not starved and absued (though they are our first priority), but we will work to rehome them, not keep them here. We are quite a ways from Melbourne, but if she can not find anyone, we may be able to help. I will be in Michigan from the 4th thru the 8th, but she can check our info. at our website below.

I didn't forget about you. I am still making phone calls. I called my trainer to see if he would bw interested and he is really thinking 'hard on it'. Someone will come through. He sounds like a wonderful horse. Does he get along with geldings? Can he be pastured with them or is he still studdy?

Oh yay. He is fine in the pasture, both with mares and geldings. I had him in my 40 acre pasture, first with a mare and two geldings, and later after my mare died with 3 other geldings. He is very easy to catch in the 40 acres. Right now he is by himself, and wants to be with other horses. He is very social and likes to be where the action is. My friend also has trained him to stake out, which is a useful thing to be able to do with a horse.

Unfortunately my friend cannot send photos on her computer and I have moved 3 1/2 hours away. Perhaps she can get a friend to do the pictures for her. PM me and we can exchange phone numbers and e-mails. Thank you so much! This kind lady deserves a break!

I'm located in Melbourne (Palm Bay, really) and if she needs help with anything, I'd be willing to lend a hand... I can't offer to buy the horse, but I can certainly arrange to help her out if need be. Anything to stay connected to the horse world, since I sold my mare in April...
