Fla. HT'ian TR/campout Nov. 19-23? Lemme know

The purpose of this thread has been changed to now include our first Fla. regional trail ride/campout. With extra time, we should be able to get this done (unlike earlier this year)

We are going to the Spirit of the Suwannee...Update info is on the last couple pages.

Can you be a member of the club and not live in the area ?? Are the meetings mandatory ???????

You have to be a member to participate, correct ?

Members can be anywhere, and the meeting are not mandatory. I only go because one of the officers live one street up from me, and we ride together, so I ride along to the meetings.

Hmm, I know you don't have to be a member for the bus tour, not sure about the campout, You probably just pay extra.

I would love to camp out with the horses. My husband and I have talked about trying it out. But, I've never done that yet though... perhaps I'll try a one-nighter close by to see how it goes. Did yall have a good experience the first time you camped out with the horses? or was it no big deal?

I am a fist timer, as well. BarnBum is an expert camper, maybe she'll chime in here and answer that for you.

I figure I will prepare to stay the night, but bring a trailer so I can leave if I chicken out. This will not only be my first time camping with horses, it will be my first time camping period!

I am not an expert by any means !!!!!! I don't have a fancy LQ trailer. Just a 2H BP with a good size DR that I put an air mattress in and sleep. If hubby is with me, up goes the 3 room tent !!!!!! Makeup and hair dryer stays home for the weekend !!!!!!!!!!!!! I enjoy getting away w/ my horse and friends and I enjoy the outdoors. If I have to wash up via a water hose, then be it. Wherever you go, faciilites vary. Some have stalls, some you need your own fencing. Some have bath/shower facilities, some just have a port-a-potty. Once you get there, meet people, you won't want to leave, the weekend will go by fast. Join some local trail riding / camping clubs in your area.

The only concern I have right now is with all these storms is how fast are the trails going to dry out to ride on. I for one do not ride on waterlogged trails. Bad for their feet and I dont know the trails so I sure as heck want to see where my horse is walking !!!!!!!! Oh yeah, the bugs and snakes too !!!!

Awww.. I wish there was a way I could make it out to one of these..
I'd love to meet my fellow Floridian Horsetopia addicts!
But, alas, I'm pretty far away from those trips, and don't have a horse..

You don't need a horse for the bus tour

Awww I thought you got an extra big bus to bring the ponies along too!!
I'm totally kidding..
But the drive up is a lengthy one for me..
Plus the addtional fact that I don't have a car
That would be one heckuva walk!!

Perhaps for my first camping trip I'll try and find a place with stalls. I grew up camping so that's not a concern... I actually love it, love being outside. I'm just nervous about the horses... I don't know if I'd get much sleep, I'd be so worried about everything (I'm kinda a worry wart when it comes to the horses). I'll have to do some searching on-line today and see about finding a close-by place. I just got a trailer and am itching to go somewhere.... especially when it gets more winter weather out there I'm going to want to go camping.

Bus tour sounds like fun but we have some much stuff going on in the next 2 months I'm not sure we could make it but I'm going to try. I'd love to meet some more horses folks out there though.

This particular club is always doing something, so even if you can't do it now, you can do it when your ready.

I know.... I think my computer has the hiccups or something. All my fonts sizes have gone crazy..... Hope this is better. If not I'll re-boot since that's all I can think of to do.

Last year I camped out once a month with my kids and often took the horses. It is grand fun. Ditto to everything everyone says--forget the hair dryer, and stuff. Bathrooms are nice but not necessary. There is a new horse camping place opening up in Mayo. We hope to check it out soon. We are thinking about camping out at Boy's Ranch the first weekend of October. McCully Farms is another dream of mine. Also Goethe National Forest I've heard is great. On Wed. my two neighbors and I rode at Spirit of Suwannee--great trails. The camping there is a little pricey when we can go to Oleno for $4. But Spirit of Suwannee is a beautiful place.

McCulley and Spirit of Suwanee is a dream for me too but the 6-7 hr drive is whats stopping me Not to mention I would want to stay 5-6 days. My g/f goes to the Sherrifs boys ranch every year and she asked me to go w/ her this year but its just too far of a drive for 2 night. Get there Fri ..... home on Sun.......... If I am going to drive over 5-6 hrs, I am spending more time !!!

You are very lucky nightrider to be so far North where all the pretty parks are !!!!!!!!!!

Highhorse and I would love to get HT campout together this fall.

My concern is all this rain from summer and the hurricanes/TS that the trails will stay wet

I would also like to get into some camping trips later when it cools off some.
I am wanting to go to the Spirit of the Suwannee. It may be a little pricey but I still want to go.
