Equine disease is on the rampage in FLA

This is a continuation from another thread. I wanted to find out how everyone felt about the spread of several diseases in FLA.

This link provides a list of all the current events surrounding horses. Several pertain to illness in horses, including INCEP, and EP.
http://www.thehorse.com/morenews/Default.aspx

I truly think it has so much to do with the fact that due to budget cuts, mosquito spraying has all but stopped. I think the dumbest thing they could've done in FLA is stop spraying for mosquitos. Are they really that stupid? I guess I shouldn't have asked that. I already know the answer.

Now we have to vacc. every 4mos. for mosquito born illness. It ain't cheap! But the good news is that the governor gets to keep his private jets, mansion, and all the other obnoxious perks while we are locked inside our homes for fear of catching completly preventable diseases! Ugh! I could scream right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All this water from Faye isn't going to help either.

I just called my vet and they are saying its still every 6 months for West Nile.

Where did you hear every 4 months ??

Maybe I should invest in a mosquito magnet for the barn.

Local vets in my area, and the local newspaper.

Four more cases have been found on the EP...

Here is the new press release from the State of Florida:

http://www.doacs.state.fl.us/ai/pdf/...Web_Update.pdf

They still are not releasing the name of the stable(s) that are quarantined. I live in and have my horses in Manatee County, and it scares me that I have no idea where these horses are from. Always wonder if its close to where my horses are...

Right! It sucks!

The quarentined barns are in the Duette area. That is all the info that I have been able to get. They interviewed Linda in the Bradenton Herald. IT was on the front page yesterday. Check it out.

I have been speaking to Dr Shorts office, he is the one that is heading the investigation. They have told me that it is an isolated incident. The barn that they are speaking of is a Quarter Horse farm that participates in Brush races. He has said the spread was not due to ticks but from dirty needles. The horse that was originally infected was from Europe.

People kill me...its like $0.30 a needle!!! Buy a new one for each horse!

Still scary though. The newspaper www.bradenton.com just published another story about EP today.

Nomean, you are out in that area, right? Do you know where the newspaper is talking about?
