NORTH MIAMI BEACH (CBS4) ― If you think the South Florida heat is unbearable, just think of how your pet feels; that's exactly the problem the humane society faces in North Miami Beach.
At the humane society's Soffer and Fine Adoption Center, temperatures are reaching the 90's because of the scorching heat. The problem is the center has an irreparable air conditioning system, so they are making an urgent place for the community to help out.
"In our 70 plus year history we have rarely issued a plea to the community but we are in desperate need to help the 200 animals in our care," said Emily Marquez-Dulin in a press release.
She is the Executive Director of the Humane Society of Greater Miami Adopt-A-Pet.
"We are calling out to companies and individuals to help us raise the $85,000 needed to purchase and install a new air conditioning system. We have raised $13,000 thus far."
And of course, the responsible adoption of a pet from their shelter doesn't hurt either. Officials say their cats are the ones suffering the most in this crisis, but all animal adoptions are greatly appreciated.
The Soffer and Fine Adoption Center is located at 16101 West Dixie Highway in North Miami Beach. It is open Tuesday-Sunday from 11am until 7pm.
