Boarding Barns

I wanted to know if any of "you" htpians have your own boarding barn, and are located in the Broward Co. area, preferrably Davie or SW Ranches or even in the Coral Springs area???

I dont have a horse, but I like to check out prices if I do decide ,after I start working, that I might get one. ...just depends on work and wager.

Anyways,
I prefer the price range of $200 +/-, but nothing in the $400s and up ...

If any of "you" htpians in the area have something available or a friend of yours that has a boarding barn and the price/barn is safe and good, then please pm me....

and I'm not in any hurry, I just like to scroll around and check out different places before I make a move. ..

I hate to say it, but you can't feed ONE horse right now for $200. The feed prices are unbeliveable. That price range is going to be very tough to find. Over here, on the West coast, right across from you, the boarding rates range from $600 and up. Good luck.

thanks. Luck is definantly what I need. But I am in no hurry for a horse, I have plenty of time[few months] to lay my head on it and think about it...

I know in Davie there are plenty of places that are very reasonably priced[within the 200-300 range], but I dont want to choose one that I might not get my penny's worth, and would rather go by references or whoever on here has a barn that is board-available.......

right now I am just in the process of "thinking" then buying, so I dont make a awful mistake on my part if I get a horse too quick and dont have the extra $ to give.....

The market is horrible, the prices on food/supplies is up, resession is overcoming us, gas prices at the pump is $4.60 for diesel and $3.75 for prem., nothing is getting cheaper and thats why I am holding back at this moment until I know for sure this is the right decision I want to make....

But if anyone has references and has boarded at a specific barn or has barn avail for boarding, please tell me. I rather have references and information then waiting til the last minute and panicking to find a suitable well-priced barn.

Cool

I charge $485/month for board and my husband just told me last night, we are operating in the "red"! I am going to have to raise rates May 1st and I hate to do it, but things are expensive. I live in the "horsey" area of Tampa and board around here is $500-$650/month. My feed just went up this month to $20.50/bag!!!!! OUCH!

Were you looking for partial board for the $200 range??? You could probably find that if you bought your own feed/hay... Good luck scoping out barns...

Yikes! Thats pretty bad you have to raise the price, but that just goes to show how the U.S is doing financially. People are penny pinching to save a few for food. ....

If I board, it would have to be full boarding, not partial because I cannot afford $200 /wk for feed, hence why I rather board full and have that included for a min. fee. ....I just pay vet, shoes and other extras.

But again, I have plenty of time to rest my head on this and think before I move....

You have to remember too, on top of board, you have vet, farrier, supplements, etc............. Look at ementies, the saying, you get what you pay for. I know in Davie they cram as many horses they can on the littlest piece of property and the horses have no turn out and live in little paddocks. Isn't it very low over there ? Make sure the place is high and dry too- you don't want your horse standing in mud/water in the summer. I would look around come summer time to see how the barns fare in the rain.

What about a lease ?? Thats the best of both worlds !!

I have been to Davie to the feed/tack stores and wouldl ike to make it to Tree Tops or Robbins Park to ride. Its a cute little town. We went there often b/c my hubby wanted to go to Bass Pro all the time and I told him, the deal, was he had to take me to the tack shops there !!

We got a Bass Pro by me now, so I don't visit over there much anymore !!

Great idea...I leased a horse before I was ready to purchase my own. It was a great situation and a great alterantive to some of the "hassles" & expenses of having your own. Also, b/c of everyone's expenses going up, there are probably a lot out there to choose form ! Good luck!

I seriously doubt that you will find anything full board for $200-$300/month in SW Ranches or Davie. I live in SW Ranches and do layups and rehab. I wouldn't take a horse for $200/week. I don't even think you could find a partial board situation for $200/month.

Hi,

Thanks for messaging me and posting - I will definantly keep you in mind. That's a very good price , esp. in Parkland. ...

I forgot, sorry if you have to repeat this, what is included/excluded in the boarding for full/partial? I think you said I need feed - but the rest you do??? sorry if I am wrong...

Anyways, thanks again.

Boarding in Fort Myers

Hi, I have a 10 stall barn in Fort Myers. 9 stalls are full (2 of the horses are mine) I charge 350.00 a month and make almost NO MONEY!!!! Hay prices are crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are several boarding barns in the area and most are up to around 500.00 a month. I know my boarders can't afford that so I am trying my best to keep from raising the price.

I would appreciate any money saving tips that you guys have found to stay in business. I started buying shavings by the truck load, that saves me a little.

Walli, let me reccommend Cameo Farms. They are 475 though but your horse will get great quality feed and hay, and great care. My Aunt and I brought her horse there years ago, then I bought a thoroughbred and kept him there. They are on about 30 acres and your horse gets whatever turnout you want and is on great grass. My Aunt now works there and treats every horse like its her own.
