Might Be Moving to Montgomery!

So...hubby just called and said he had a tentative offer for a job in Montgomery!

Nice pay....the whole nine yards...as an inspector.

Might be calling on you Montgomery residents for some info soon.

Will keep you updated.

I think that is where Dusty lives???

Wow...another 2 1/2 hours south and you'll be in MY neck of the woods. How many horses are you going to have to move? Good luck. I hope it all works out.

There are a lot of outlying areas around Montgomery that are wonderful. Good luck with the move and if you need anything, let us know. We are about 45 minutes east in Auburn/Opelika.

I know...drat...I was excited too! Could have done some volunteer work at a local rescue!

Guess I could still come down there and visit.

We have been working on moving to Ala all year. Husband just had a phone interview for a job in Birmingham starting in Jan 09. We have an offer on 6 acres with a barn already there on the southeast side of the perimeter. Have been looking on thr west side too, Maytown/Adamsville. We were looking around Montgomery and I was up for a week last month, looking mostly in Clanton/Chilton/Shelby county. Saw alot of nice places, the land up around Calera/Thorson/Jemison is very mineral rich soil, land of the hayfields up there. All the horses and cows I saw up there were pig fat My husband is retiring 25 yrs with the company here in Fl he's been at, I lived in Al as a child, my father is from Montgomery, and I have alot of family scattered about the state. We have 7 horses, my husband has a AQHA gelding he's been showing since last summer, he's riding with a trainer right now for WP and trail. Chance is always in the ribbons in halter/showmanship etc. He's got 120 days with the trainer now. The show circuit in Ala looks to be active, I went by the grounds in Autauga Cty were the shows are held, looked real nice. Supposed to hear from the RE agent this weekend on our offer, we are flying up in a couple weeks, to drive around, and my husband has a face to face meeting with the new employer. So, we are gearing up for a MAJOR move, and a new adventure for sure!! I look forward to seeing the seasons come and go, and real cold weather. We are just now getting rid of TS Fay, what a pain this week has been. I WON'T miss the hurricane season, especially after what we went through in 2004[we were hit by all three] destroyed my old ranch...long story. So, hopefully next spring when we get settled a bit, we'll make some shows to start, AQHA and Palomino, and the open stuff. I want to go over to Ga to that ranch that has the obstacle challenge practices and seminars, that's getting HUGE down here[Central Fl]. Hope to meet some of you sometime.

Awww rats...no one wants to move down by me! It may as well be the Florida coast without the pretty blue water or the good horsepeople! Cariboo is the only one brave enough to come down and I am thinking she regrets it!

Ah! Goody! Someone else who like sweltering heat, perpetual summer, and bugs!

Just kidding, I really like the AL coast, but I do wish there were more horse professionals in the area

I have found riding in the late afternoons to be rather challenging during the summer. Long pants are against my religion during ANY kind of warm-ish weather. I am sooooo ready for the cooler months!

What kind of horse professionals are you looking for? Just curious, I'm strictly a pleasure rider....so far.

I have had horrible luck with the equine vets in this area. There are some better ones in Baldwin county but most won't travel to Mobile...which is a big part of the problem. I can trailer for non-emergency things but sometimes that just isn't possible.

There is also a shortage of reputable trainers/instructors in the area and a limited show venue. Equine dentists usually have to be brought in from out of town. I have recently found out there are several chiropractors in the area but apparently you only find out about them by word of mouth. So....you have to find the right mouth!

I just wish we had more variety around here....like take a quarter of Ocala's prime horse venue and stick it halfway between Mobile and Baldwin counties, and I would be in heaven!

I see what you mean. I think there's a growing horsey industry down here and trainers, vets and such have been slow to step in and help fill the void. Good to know there's some Chiro.'s in the area....just gotta find'em and hope they're good and worth what they charge.

How do you prefer to ride...english or western? I'm a western gal, myself.

Mostly western...but starting to dabble in a little english. Mainly because my main riding mare is Appendix and too rough/springy not to post! So I figured I would try something she was built for. No specific discipline....I like most all of it. I just try to find something my horses are good at and work at that until we get it going well. All but one of my horses are rescues so I go with their flow rather than breeding for a specific discipline or trying to force them into one.

Your last sentence is the smartest thing I've seen concerning horses in general. I can't imagine trying to force feed something that isn't liked.
I only have 1 horse and she's my first. She was rescued from a feed lot after the last big hurricane. I'm still trying to discover what all she's been trained to do. Found out just the other evening that she moves laterally very well off leg cuing! She'll stop just from me becomming "still". Just little things like that. I have no clue if she was ever shown or competed. She is microchipped so she's been registered at some point.

Thank you for the compliment And don't you just love the way rescues surprise you? That is my favorite part.

But, I think we might be hi-jacking this thread
