Trail Riding Buddy needed

I think Yankee is about ready to try out some trail riding. Around the neighborhood, he's done very well and last weekend I rode him allll over a friend's 40 acre farm but he does NOT like to ride out alone and balked over and over again. Driving him in the cart he's fine, but riding him is a bit more challenging.

Is there anyone near the Warner Robins area that I could trailer to and go on trail rides with from time to time? I NEED to find water somewhere and get him used to it (we are going to compete him in CDE's and he has to be able to take on water hazards).

I'd like to learn from someone who has started a trail horse b/c I'm not totally confident in my own abilities and would appreciate some guidance.

Let me be honest and say that, at least for the moment, I'm not looking for a wild fast ride b/c he's still bucking at the canter but I want to instead walk, trot and introduce him to new stuff to get him ready to compete this fall.

I may be too boring for y'all but thought I'd put the question out there and see if anyone is interested.

Thanks!
Amy

Hey, I am Lizella. Thunderbaby and I ride together, but I go to my trainers alot and there is water galore there and mud and just about anything a trail horse needs to get used to. Also the is a place called 1099 that is about 30 min from where I live that thunderbaby goes to all the time.. We are gonna try to get up there too since we bought a smaller trailer. Our other one is for weeknd and week camping. Going to my trainers this weekend to ride.

Yep, 1099 has creeks, river, hills, and bridges. It's pretty challenging in some places. There are some places that you can get into a nice trot and/or canter. We take it slow with greenies but will ride out if by ourselves or have more advanced horses/riders with us. Haven't decided if we are going down with Cameo or 1099 this weekend. We may go to 1099 on Monday. Let us know when you'd like to go.

Man, am I jealous. But we have to shoe this weekend, and Freckles is being bred to Beau so we want to give her at least another week. I can't say enough about Wayne's training abilities. He spent an hour with Mike and I and Cisco in the roundpen, and Cisco and I have been sidepassing, backing and riding every day since. Taking him down in a week so that Wayne can see how good we are doing and bringing him his next project.

Of course not! I think Alihspharaoh may come too. The farrier is supposed to come out that morning. Or if ya'll didn't want to wait to go after that we could reschedule the farrier for later in the week.

If my "date" with my biker man falls through, I'll be wide open on Monday so if y'all don't mind a "greenie" then I'd like to tag along. I'll PM you, Thunderbaby, my cell number to call if/when y'all make plans to ride!

I would like to come if anyone had a spare horse they could bring out for me. I do not currently have a trailer and neither of mine are up for or in condition for trail riding at this point.

Hey seer, if ya wanna come ride in Soperton, I have my Duke down there for training. He would be available to ride. Wayne has a few extra's too. Duke is broke and a very good trail horse and is not spooky. He is in training to fine tune his steering.

K, I got lost somewhere. So is 1099 on Monday off now???

I did a Mapquest from WR to Soperton and it's 70 miles which makes me a tad nervous to do alone so not sure I can swing it. If anyone was going to 1099 on Monday, was going to bring my friend, Ken, with me. I'm new to trailering and just not real confident yet.

What time on Saturday are y'all riding? I really want to participate b/c I'm tired of riding around the flipping neighborhood and through people's yards but I also semi committed to the Memorial Day motorcycle run to Andersonville to put flags on the graves. <sigh> what to do what to do...

In Soperton we will ride both Sat and Sun. On sat we will ride out at about 10:00. I go to Soperton alot cause I just love the trails and water and mud and all that. Seer is coming there to ride. I am letting her ride my Duke.

As far as I know 1099 is in the planning. Not really sure as to the details. Ihave never been there, so thunderbaby and my boarder will have to show us. I now have a smaller trailer for day rides. I can haul 5 in it. My other trailer is for weekend rides. It is way to big for me to pull.

I have no sence of direction and it is extremely easy to get there. Pretty much a straight shot up I-16.

Well, I sent an email to Yankee's co-owner and she's all over me going and suggested I use her truck rather than my old truck to ensure a better than average chance of breaking down. LOL...

We REALLY need to get him out and exposed before he starts competing but to be honest with y'all I am scared to death to trailer that far by myself and scared to death he will be naughty and y'all will be mumbling under your breath, "note to self; never invite Amy again"...<sigh> I'm VERY nervous and unsure of myself around non-greenies.

K, that's the honest truth. I'm all set to meet up with y'all but will most likely be a wreck when I get there (hmmm, do bloody mary's travel well??? LOL) and I cannot promise Yankee will be a good boy. We are working on it but he's a far better cart pony than riding pony...but he is the love of my life and even though I'm usually cussing when I get off of him, I'm already counting down to the next time we can go out and play.

It's okay for you to retract the invitation and say, "maybe next time". It's your day of play and I don't want to ruin it. Just let me know.

We do not have any issues with horses that need experience. My horses are seasoned horses and there are no issues with other horses freaking them out. So don't you worry at all. With Seer and my trainer there if there are issues they can be worked out. We understand about a green horse on the trails, ours was there at one time too. I have a mare that I just bought, she is skiddish so I know for a while it might be a rodeo on the trail. After she goes to the trainer. So don't worry. I fix you a drink.
