Range the tooth issue could quite possibly be genetic. We had a line of Nubians that had awesome romen noses but by 3 years old had lost teeth. Also, with the romen nose thing often the teeth don't fit the dental plate correctly which also causes stress on the teeth and they fall out. Another big reason is mineral blocks, alot of people use them the problem is they are to hard and if the goats are need of minerals they will try to bite them. Best mineral for a goat is a species specific loose mineral.

The neurological thing if the goat acted like it was drunk and or blind was probally polio or lysteriosis alot of vets will diagnose it correctly but do not does the meds properly...they sorely underdose what is needed.

Same goes for wormer we use as stronge a dose of wormer for the goats or stronger than what we use for the horses. If your goat had bottle jaw the problem was low blood iron. That could be from either a major worm infestation or even after a good worming when the worms let go of the stomach/intestine, they let go and leave hundreds (or more) of tiny holes that bleed causing major blood loss and anemia. The fluid you are seeing in the jaw is the result of blood cells rupturing. It takes a month or more of constant care to get a goat that sick well again.

They are fun and adictive though aren't they!

TMom, I was thinking the same thing! One of my friends stepsisters has a pygmy goat that just had 3 babies, but the mommy doesn't want them and the girl who is 11 can't take acre of them, so they are giving them away. They are 5 weeks old and sooo cute! But mom doesn't want goats because we already have a zoo.

I'm glad Oreo was okay!

I took Oreo to my vet today, and he was given Penicillin and CD-T shots. He was running a temperature. The other two goats, Rocky and the re-named "Brownie" (was Burrito), will be getting their shots tomorrow. For free goats, they are getting quite expensive! (Reminds me of the Tractor Supply commercial about there's no such thing as a free puppy...)
ps-Brownie's name will no doubt change as my 6 yr. old son explores the world of naming your first very own pet!
