Update- It's been awhile, but....

I have a rescue calf that will be coming home with me tomorrow. The boss came in tonight and said "Get it out of here by lunch tomorrow or I'll shoot him."

Me----------> Yep no pressure here, no way!

I'll have pics and the story tomorrow.

Okay, so I got the calf at about 1pm (because my bro took the good truck ), luckily the boss was pre-occupied with haylage so we got lucky.

I found this little guy's momma calving on Thursday night. I moved her to the box pen so she'd be alone and more comfortable. My boss showed up soon after and I told him that she was calving and her water just broke. He goes back and baby's one leg was back. My boss got it straight and the baby came out. He's a fairly big baby and his dam is small, so this guy ran out of room in the womb and his legs grew crooked. I'm hoping I can get them straightened out (like I did with Clyde before). Here he is...

Now I also stopped off at the place where I used to work (the evil family). I went in to see 'my' old cows and there was another bull calf there. My old boss was there and he told me to take him. How could I say no?

This guy has the same problem as the baby above, only not as severe. This baby is also an embryo transfer calf - if he was a heifer he'd be worth big bucks, but sadly bull calves here are going for free. Meet calf number 2....

You can see his leg splints here...

I have no place to put these babies right now so they're living in the trailer for now. My other boss has given me 3 or 4 free calf hutches, I just have to get over there and get them.

So cute and wow that is amazing, are those braces or splints you put on the legs?

Those poor male calves. They are so lucky to have a Guardian Angel like you!

They are in good hands now. They are sooooo cute. How long will it take before you can see any improvement?

UPDATE -

Calf #2 is coming along just fine! I took one leg splint off last night and he is very straight and strong in that leg now, still working on the other leg. He also has an appetite like a horse! My younger cousins named him Gump.

Calf #1 , Forest is not improving at all. I believe his ankles are fused in that position and I can't get them to bend. He still jumps up and eats and walks around buckled which is all fine and dandy now, but when he gets bigger it will be too much weight on his ankles and it would just not be a good situation at all. Next week I'll be getting the cow vet out for preg checks and we'll see what can be done - if anything, sadly we may end up putting him down though.

I'll keep you guys posted.

I just love the picture where the cat looks fluffy. You are doing a great job with them. I hope all goes well for calf #1.

Aww...so cute! I had a calf like that born about a month and a half ago. He was a twin, I guess it got pretty cramped in there...his legs were so bad he couldn't even get up on them for about a week and a half. Eventually he got to where he was standing like your calf in the first picture, after about 3 weeks he was walking normal with no problem at all.

Ya know it's just a thought but we've had one or two goats with that problem and it turned out to be vit. or mineral related. I gave them both A/D and Bo-Se along with splinting the leg and they did get better.
