An afternoon with Jolene!

The sun was shining and it was warm this afternoon. There was a nice warm breeze that would pick up every now and again from the west. There was no rain, it wasn't insanely hot, but it was a wonderful day to get in some Jolene time!

I went to the barn, grabbed a halter and headed out to the pasture to retrieve my favorite bovine. As soon as she saw me she came right on over and put her dainty head down which I was thankful for. You see, our current bull, Calvin is just a young thing, but he is full of himself. If he saw me he'd come after me, no doubt about it. Anyways, back to my story, I got Jolene and I led her up to the gates and out.

We turned west and headed back the lane away from the barn. This lane takes us right back to the forest and we can access any field from it. As always, I had a feline helper with me. It seems I can't do anything without having at least one under foot!

It didn't take long for Calvin to notice us and he made our afternoon a loud one by trying to threaten me through the fence cause I 'stole' one of his girls.

On to the pics!

Jolene took complete advantage of the situation. She pigged out.

Meanwhile, behind me Calvin was pawing the ground and snorting...

The barn swallows were swooping down catching the bugs that Jolene disturbed, she was too busy filling her hole to notice!

And behind me Calvin was zoning in. Thank goodness for the fence and the hot wire!

Ah yes, a cat at my side, my best cow in front of me, this must be paradise!

Jolene, Flirty and I made it down to the hay field and turned in. She'd never been back this far so she was checking it out.

We started to head back, Flirty had to prance to keep up!

Jolene ate a little more...

And Calvin was still being stupid.

And my poor Flirty pants was exhausted! (she's blind in one eye, that's why it looks a bit weird)

It was a good afternoon all in all. Hope you guys enjoyed the pics.

Oh! Oh! This reminds me of something I forgot to tell you, Sam!

There's a bitty little village I drive through on my way to and from work, and the other day I turned the corner to drive through and what to my wondering eyes should appear but a young boy walking his Holstein calf down the lane.

I thought of you and Jolene straight off! I so wish I would have had my camera. The little guy/girl led really well, too, so they must have been doing quite a bit of practicing.

You and Jolene remind me of the movie City Slickers II, at the begining when Billy Crystal and his cow is jogging down the street.

Isn't it so great to have a friend like that.

I loved the pics! Jolene looked sweet and I thought calvin was very handsome :] The cat was very adorable also..and the land youre on is beautiful. Sounds like a great day.

The afternoon would have been much better is Calvin just went and did his own thing! Did you see how his mouth is open in every picture? He was balwing at me and it was so loud! I wish my camera had a recorder on it, it's an awful noise.

For those of you that follow along, Jolene had her baby about 60 days ago, so it's time to breed her back again! I've been b/f shopping for her and I found a few that caught my eye. I'm getting the vet out soon to make sure Jolene and a bunch of others are good to go and we'll get them all bred back.

I'm now wanting to take Marietta out for walk. I haven't had her on a halter since last fall! Of course being a Jersey, I'm sure she'd be a complete angel anyways!

Calvin looked a little PO'd in that last pic. When I was growing up my granny gave me a heffier. I loved that cow. Jolene is a sweet pretty girl

I can see it now Jolene in one hand and Marietta in the other. You'll need to take pics with your toes.

I have a pretty good idea just how loud he was.
