Rummage sale find....update

My neighbor calls me up and says she has some leftover seeds and wants to know if I'd like to have them for my garden. I said sure and asked my granddaughter if she'd like to go with me. Naturally she was delighted and said yes. We are given the grand tour of the neighbor's flower gardens when we come to one that has a chicken on a fence post. The neighbor is commenting on how she found it at a yard sale and even though it was kind of drab she liked it. Well my granddaughter pipes up and says she can paint it for her. Granny has all kinds of paint.

The neighbor was polite but didn't take DaisyMay seriously. A few days later she begs me to call the neighbor and see if she can paint her chicken. Ends up leaving her a message on her answering machine. Several weeks later I run into the neighbor and the topic of the chicken comes up. I told her DaisyMay really wants to paint it so she walks over and takes it of the post and hands it to me. I could tell from the look in her eyes that she was worried about what she'd get back after a 6 year old gets done with it. I warned the neighbor that I wasn't sure how well it would weather. That my paints might peel off.

Well here's the chicken. I had already painted the eye when I thought I should get a before pic.

And here is the after. My son even got involved making it a family project.

WOW that looks great. You all did an awesome job. I bet your neighbor will be impressed too. Not so "drab" anymore - that is for sure.

Thanks everyone that means a lot to her. She was upset that she wasn't able to stay and give the bird back to the neighbor. I told her she'll be back this weekend that we would wrap it up like a gift and give it to her then. Even my son can't wait to see the neighbors face.

You wouldn't believe how many birds I looked at online trying to find the right one. DaisyMay said she wanted it colorful. (The partridge is just that.)
I'm going to have to have a whole flock of these just so I can have one in every color. But then I know me and I'd want the real ones.

I found a hen setting on 13 eggs!!!! After candling them I estimate them to hatch in two weeks. My hatch rate this year has been bad. One hen sat and never hatched a one.

I thought for sure my pea hens eggs were infertile seeing how I lost my male but one hen hatched 3 eggs last week and I lost all the chicks. Then a couple days ago my son tells me I have another hen running around with one chick. My male was a daddy after all.

I'll post a pic of the neighbors bird sitting on his post looking so lifelike when I get it. I see she has a plywood cow that needs painting too.

DaisyMay is quite the little artist. Good job! And she sounds like such a sweet child.

I LOVE IT!!

Do you have one of those ceramic paint your own places? I did that with my Grandma for a bonding experience, just us two, and we had SO much fun together! And, my piece turned out REALLY beautiful!

I LOVE painting ceramics.

Someone has a booth at our local fair. I'll have to remember to look this year. good thinking.

The neighbor has no siding on her house, she said as we were leaving that DaisyMay could help her paint her house. My granddaughter got all excited and on the way home talked about when we could start that project. It's a two story farm house.

Thanks everyone. I know she's pleased.
