What is she and does she look pregnant? [Update]

Hello everyone,

I let hubby do my goat shopping at the auction this week and he got four very cute does... well this one though cute and very sweet theres some things I dont know about her... like what is she? and does she look pregnant to you?

My guess what like an alpine then maybe dwarf or pygmy cross? Shes to tall to be just a dwarf breed.

Sorry for all the pics that are about the same. I got the difference angles to try and help people guess if shes pregnant.

**** Update**** She didnt have milk before but she does now!! At how many weeks do they start getting milk?

I'm not sure if she's pregnant or not but she is adorable! Of course I tried to share this with my husband who said "it's a GOAT honey" (sigh*) Sometimes they don't understand-I hope she is pregnant, the babies would be so-ooooo cute.

She looks like a Pygmy or Pygmy cross, not all Pygmys are really short they have a larger size and the small pet size. They were origionally bred for meat the pet sized you see the most now while cute are really not practical meat animals.

Pregnant? Ummmmmmm hard to say how about an udder shot and/or a side and back view. She looks chubby but not sure about preggo unless she is not very far along.

I have to agree with the others she is a cute one ...nice smile.

I'm going with Pygmy, too. I have had several tall Pygmies with my shorties.

I'm not sure about preggo, though. I've a couple of Pygmies that everyone thinks are pregnant, but they haven't been exposed - and one is a wether! Pygmies seem to carry their bellies a little differently....

What's her udder look like?

Really? I didnt know Pygmys could be that tall... again I know nothing about Pygmys. Oh well.. not the breed that I breed... but we are totally in love with her. So she will stay no matter what. Hmm... I didnt think she was fat because her belly is fat and the rest of her actually quite skinny. I wondered if she could be wormy and have that look?

I will get a pic of her udder. To me her "nipple" area looks bigger. At least there bigger then my nubians. But I dont think shes due like right now or anything. Time will tell I guess. I will get a back end and utter pic tomorrow. That maybe hard shes always got her head in the camera lol

Heres a picture to show you how skinny she is in the back end. If she was that fat would she be fat in the back end to? I got a wether that looks pregnant to, but he has a big filled out butt to. Also her belly seemed uneven... is that normal for being fat in pygmys?

Okay, I'll have to get a picture of my pygmy with issues. You would swear she's preggers, but knowing she hasn't been with a boy.... She's not nearly as skinny as that in the back end, but her belly is much bigger than the rest of her. And, I worm regularly.

Yeah thats what makes me wonder is the back end. I think she has worms if she isnt pregnant. Just gonna have to wait and see I guess lol. I just got her last night but she will be wormed to make sure. And Ill be careful about what I worm her with just incase she is pregnant For now Im gonna put her on something to help her gain some weight to. Shes so skinny other then that belly.

Except for the longer legs, she is a clone of a pygmy I had years ago......the beautiful silver color, with the dorsal stripe. And no matter what I bred her to, we always got the silver babes.
She is a cutie, no matter what!

Awww. Now I miss my goats. She sure is a cutie. About being preggo, hard to say. An udder pic would help, maybe. Sometimes if they eat alot at once, they get a shape like that. I can't remember how long mine were preg. Now I am gonna have to Google it. Let us know if she has a baby. And remember 2 or 3 is not abnormal.

I have goats and yet I had to do some checking around. How embarrassing. This old pea brain is darn lucky to have the web.

Checked out this website and pulled this info
http://fiascofarm.com/goats/breeding.htm#pregnant
You cannot tell if a goat is pregnant by looking at them.
The normal gestation time is 145-155 days.
A goat may not start "showing" until at least a month or less before kidding, and sometimes they never show at all.

The last statement is true with my goats. Often I don't know they are pregnant until a month before they kid.

This may also be helpful

Be sure to let us know if you have kids in the near future!

Thanks for the info I will read it all.

But I read a part and basically there talking about some goats just look fat and heathy and some that are look pregnant. But this girl just has a fat belly... she doesnt look fat any other place, nor does she look "healthy" wait other places like her butt and neck.

We shall see I will keep everyone updated.

There is a membrane between the uterus and other organs of the does that helps hold things in place. It's quite common for this membrane to rupture in the smaller breeds thus making them look prego even if they are not. I can't for the life of me recall what it is but I will check into it.

I've got a good friend who raises Nigies and she has one doe that she keeps hidden when people stop out just because she so clearly looks prego. She doesn't want to argue with people or make Lynn feel bad because they laugh at her. She is such a majestic old doe she really would take offense.

Not sure how much this will help. Its really hard to get a good udder pic on a small goat. lol Plus she seemed to not want me near her back end

I think she is prego. I have had several goats. She could be bloated but if that is the case she will act sickly. Try taking your fist and gently push in on her stomach see if it feels like something is pushing back. This is a fairly easy way you can tell also after this sometimes you can see the baby move.

She doesnt act sickly at all. She eats like a pig and is a bit of a food bully. She eats like she was starved lol.

To me she seems a bit big in the udder but I have noticed if does have had babies before they get a bit "stretched" in the udder so maybe thats all Im seeing.
