weed and pest control?

ive been thinking about adding a few birds for weed control, pest control would be a plus but not a need. thankfully it doesnt get too bad here.
ive been told geese and chickens are good for this, but ive also heard quail.
does anyone have any experience with any of these birds/know of other birds who would do the job?
is it even worth it or should i just go out there and get my hands dirty myself?
if geese fit the bill, will i need to put in a pond for swimming or do they do fine without?
what are some good hatcheries in canada/hatcheries that will ship to canada with a good variety? i havent had any luck finding any.

last question i promise!
i live on 10.5 acres, approx. how many birds would i need to weed 9 acres of that? (the other 1.5 is dog territory, birds wouldnt fair too well.)

I've heard of guinea hens for ticks....
