They are very hard to raise from that small. They go into shock so fast. Try and get him to nurse from a bottle and formula made for kittens. Good luck. What happened to its mama?

keep it VERY warm. put fuzzy stuff in there too so its like a rabbit nest. try to feed him as much as he will eat and when you feed kind of put your hand and gently move around to simlate the mother coming inthe nest to feed. try to put him in a room where there are NO drafts. they are hard to raise when they are small so the risk of loosing him is great so dont be heart broken and think its something you did if he does pass.

It is possible..I have bottle fed a squirrel from the hairless stage.

I wouldn't bother with a bottle, they rarely suck..use an eyedropper

I tend to try with reconstituted evaporated milk with corn syrup in it...but here are some other things to try..

In approximate order of acceptability and success rate, the following formula may be used in the raising of rabbit kits.

Fresh doe's milk--nurse the doe out into a very small container; feed fresh and collect often.

Fresh goat's milk--frozen whole milk may be used; must be pasteurized.. Use as a sole formula.

Powdered pet milks: (most powders may be frozen until needed)

Lacto-Pet: formerly VetALac, an excellent substitute for doe's milk; mix in a bottle with hot water and shake very well. One heaping tablespoon to the ounce.

VetALac Puppy or Kitten: either will do, although not as well as the LactoPet. Mix as directed; watch kit hydration closely. Again, hot water and shake very well.

Esbilac Pet Formulas: not tried by the author; good results reported with puppy formula.

KMR Liquid or Powder: A product with variable reports of success; author has had very poor results. Liquid very perishable and both forms quite expensive.

First Born or other puppy and kitten formulas: Again, variable reports of success and failure. Not tried by the author.

Soyalac, Liquid or Powder for humans: Good emergency formula since most stores which are open late at night and on weekends will have this or a similar product. Variable results; does not seem to be sufficiently balanced for long term use. Mix as directed.

Lacto-Pet is available through BENEPET Pet Care Products, PO. Box 8111 St. Joseph, Missouri 64508 This is really the most successful of the products the author has tried, bar doe's milk.

We tried to save a baby rabbit a few years ago... It only lasted 24 hours or so. During that time we fed it puppy/kitten formula every 2-3 hours (can't remember exact time). We also put a heating pad on low to keep him a little warmer. I'm not really sure if it is true or not, but i heard you aren't suppose to touch them without gloves on. I'm not really sure about that, but hopefully someone else will be a little more helpful!

Good luck!

It can be done but it's difficult. Beezwing had some really good ideas and the eyedropper is a must. Good luck!

Is there a wildlife rehaber near you that will take it. Its best chance really is with someone that does this alot and has other baby bunnies to help it grow normally. They actually feed them via stomach tube and they have to stimulate them to urinate and defecate.

Also, I believe I heard my rehaber friend tell people to put them back if they know where the nest is and it is intact. I don't believe momma will kill them.

Baby rabbits are very hard to keep alive.
Their mothers feed them part of their fecal matter, it has nutrients and it creates the rabbits immune system in just a couple days...
BUT rabbit fecal matter is hard to get your hands on unless you have another rabbit, which in that case I would suggest mixing the fecal matter in with kitten formula and putting it in a syringe or eyedropper and giving it to the rabbit. (I know this sounds crazy lol, but I had a wildlife refuge officer tell me how to raise a baby rabbit).

If you you can't manage to get that done, then I would suggest the kitten formula
GOod luck!!!!

Yes, I read the same thing about giving them fecal matter. A pet store might give you some...I could express mail you some..can he eat/drink on his own at all yet? They start very early. I don't think I'd hand feed anything other than the basics.

I also read you can put some probiotics (Petsmart) in some water for him. Also Pedialyte.

A wildlife Rehabber would be the best thing but I couldn't get one to take mine (hence I can send you some wild rabbit dung).

Everyone else has great advice. We get baby bunnies all the time and we generally use a small syringe with cat milk or diluted, boiled (and cooled) evaporated milk. Unfortunately, we've never had a bunny survive long enough to take it for help. Don't feel too badly if it dies. You did your best.

well the thing with rabbits is that they poop in two stages the fecal matter that they eat, and I am assuming they feed their babies is the first stage, not the round balls that look like coco puffs

this is why rabbit isn't kosher to eat.

I just took a whole nest full to a wildlife rehabilitator near me, They said you can only feed goats milk?

But I have heard that it is VERY rare that they live.
