He's not what I ordered......

but I think he's pretty cute! My cow Bossy had a gorgeous bull calf sometime monday, of course I wanted a heifer. So now I have to make a convincing arguement to keep him for a bull so the hubby won't sell him.
Bossy is a Angus/Simmental cross and his sire was also a Angus/Simmental cross. I'm thinking he would work well for the pure-bred Angus heifers we have, he's a nice thick boy that looks like he would throw some nice sized/colored calves. He's also very friendly and let us pet him several times, of course Bossy is a big pet so he gets it from momma.

Anyway, here is my new baby boy!!

From here he looks like white faced stocky boy:

But then you see this one, and get quite a surprise!

What a pretty boy. I love his markings. If you were really hoping for a little heiier, I'd be more than happy to run over and get him for you I'm sure he'd look really nice in my pasture. Just don't tell my husband, maybe he won't notice!

I'm reading through his breeding here and thinking why would you even think of keeping him for a bull

Then I scroll down and see the picture Now that is one handsome little lad, he has got a fantastic frame, and he sure is a great color!! How quicly dp you have to decide with him? I managed to get my husband to hold off of ringing a really nice black white face bull calf that we got this year, we're going to assess him again at weaning and see how he's doing

Angus/Simmental crosses are pretty hot down here. Most of the time we hope for the black color but the added bulk and size of the Simmental. This time around we just got more color than we expected! It's not a decision we have to make right now, he won't be cut till he's weaned so I have plenty of time to work on him!!

He is too cute! His markings make him look like he is always smiling. You should call him joker.

We were actually concerned when we first saw him because it looked like his joints were swollen. Turns out that's just how big he is!

Awww he's cute! Congrats!

Has your cow ever given you a heifer, or is she like Jolene and just gives you bulls?

She did have a heifer last year but it was a tough fall and we had to sell her. This is just her 3rd calf so I we have plenty more years to get heifers, this calf is just so durn cute I don't want to let him go!
