Pygmy Goat Registry ?'s

Hi! I've been looking into registering our pygmy goats. I found a registry; NPGA anyone have any experience with them? I would like to know how this works, can you register any pygmy? Do you have to know their 5 gen. pedigree? I understand the herd name and tattoo part, and that's not a problem. The problem is I don't know if I can register our goats? Help!

Just like with most registries, the NPGA requires the parents of your goats to be registered, and thus their parents to be registered, and so on. They don't register on looks alone. I always thought that was odd - I mean, my pygmies are DEFINITELY pygmies!

However, since pygmies are meat goats, I believe you can register them through a meat goat association - I'd have to check again.

By the way, if you are interested in showing or selling to show in 4h or FFA or just to show in county fairs, you can show your wethers without them being registered.

Thanks Range! I was hoping it was more like a pinto registry. If it looks like a pygmy, you can register it, ya know? Oh well.
