Photos: New chickens and my $4 coop!

Reused an old dog house built out of scrap wood, and added a run out of scrap wood, spending $4 so far on hardware. Need to finish it out though with another roll of rabbit wire and some 2x4's.

Total size is 7x17ft of indoor/outdoor space, including an outdoor covered spot with a roost for hot days.

Added this door by knocking out two pieces of small plywood that just happened to be located in the perfect spot, so all I had to do was frame it out and add a door, instead of having to cut a hole first. Did everything without any power tools! Hand saws... suck, btw.

And the residents...

Lil'Bit, D'Anver x Olde English game pullet

(her momma isn't included, she's mean and hateful and wouldn't come out of the house.)

Prissy, OE Game hen, loves to cuddle, jumps into your lap when invited, and not even in exchange for food!

Last but not least, Jibbers, Prissy's man, the coolest/sweetest Rooster EVER. Not sure what to call his color... but he's OE Game Bantam.

What pretty chickens! I'm going to look into getting some OEs, they have great coloring.
One day I'll have to post pics of our coop, we converted an unused paddock stall. Quite spacious!

Very nice job! Very pretty critters. Boy I can't wait until I have my own property ... thanks for letting me indulge in a fantasy brood ... (goats are my #1 "can't wait," with chickens right behind.)

I'd call Jibbers partridge but I'm not sure if that would be the right color either. All I know is you have some pretty little birds and a cool setup for them. Your going to need a roof on your flight to keep out the cats and other undesirables.

They are all nice birds.

Talk about Frugal Living! That's pretty darn good for a $4.00 Coop.

those chickens are beautiful!

I found out that Jibbers and Prissy are "Quail" colored, as well as the 3rd not-pictured hen.

Added bird netting to the top, only $14.99 for 14x14! They're locked up at night, and during the day the dogs are on gaurd duty in the yard, so it's basically to keep the chickens in and hawks out.

Also added a light, so hopefully some eggs will start showing up, and hopefully my rooster will "become a man" since I just bought an incubator. LOL

Haven't found any nighttime tampering evidence, so the coons must be worried the dogs could show up at any time. Still have some secure locks on the doors though.
