Tagging

I've been after hubby to tag our animals as I thought it would help in telling them apart. I thought I was doing pretty good but that didn't last long. Poor thing (goat) jumped and ripped it out as I was trying to put it in. When my son came home from school I asked him to help me. He held her down while I stapled her ear back together and put another tag in. Then when hubby came home from work I held her down while he sprayed it with blu-kote. She doesn't act like it bothers her today but I feel bad every time I look at her. Now she won't have anything to do with me. Can't say I blame her.

I didn't take pics of my oops but I do have some pics of my successes. At least they don't hate me.

My first attempt

and my second

They'll survive I'm sure it does not bother her at all anymore We (I) tag all our calves hubby or son hold them sometimes it's a 3 person job and out of 7 2 have lost theres all ready one my fault put in too low he also jumped before I was done. Many of the older cows tore or broke theres out/off too we use the Y tex brand cow/calf ears are thicker than goats I never "repaired" the rip/tear I do not think they would stand for that. practice makes perfect as they say

Sounds like you got it easy, we have some really strong calfs at the moment that I swear must have been a bull in it's previous life because of the way it jumps up all the time....but once the bottle is in it's mouth....it's like a vaccum cleaner....probably has more suck power than a vaccum cleaner....

....but on another note, beautiful calves you have there....
