Talking Shhhhh....don't tell hubby on me yet. Pictures added.

I just bought 4 pygmy goats. I bought a wether, a doe and her 2 babies. They are the cutest things ever. The older 2 are so friendly they are almost in your way to do anything. The babies are so cute and tiny. The babies will be an early Christmas present for my girls as they fell in love with them. And the older 2 are for me. My birthday is the 13th. I will be breaking the news to hubby that I didn't buy a goat...nope I bought 4
Now how big of a shelter will the four of them need for the winter? And what makes good safe goat toys?

congrats!.....goats are soooooo much fun.........good toys are the huge wooden spools the elec company has........or an old picnic table, kids playset.......anything to jump and climb on.....

shelter..they need a shelter from elements that is not too small...needs a good airflow to keep their breath from creating condensation.....that leads to pnuemonia.......big dog houses are good, and open stall.......are you putting them in the barn at night?........if so, a 3 sided shed is good for daytime.......
there are so many goat folks here, you'll get lots of good info!

OOOO, fun! I love goats too.

I have rescued 7 goats over the years and have 3 left....

I have wooden spools for them like tallyho said...they like to climb and be up off the ground if the ground is wet. My goats do not like to be wet! They run for cover if it starts raining!!!!

Have fun with your new goats. Can't wait to see pictures.

Congratulations! Pics please!

A few cinder blocks or rocks in their pen are good for them to jump and play on. Old wire spools are good too, although my goats where so vigorous in playing with it that it fell apart,

A small shed with good ventilation should be good for a shelter, a stall (if you have a spare one) would probably work well.
If you would like a good book with lots of good goat care tips, check out Barn yard in your back yard.

I will try and get pictures tomorrow if it stops raining. As for telling him, he now knows about the babies. I'll ease him into the other ones later

Happy Birthday!

So how did hubby take it when you told him your little surprise?

A calf hutch will be big enough for the four of them if you don't want to take up barn space. My goats think anything and everything is meant to be climbed on. One of their favorites is a truck cap. Sounds like thunder with all those pounding hooves.

Looking forward to seeing pics!

I am sooooooooo sorry it took this long for pictures. I am just not that savvy. It took forever to remember how to do this.
I would love to know what she is thinking right now.

This is Ditto.

Mama and the babies.

My girls with the babies. The one with the lighter ears is female and the other is a male.

Hubby thinks it was all his idea and that is how we are keeping it. They will be coming home the end of this month.
