I have a 2 year old QH I've had since he was 5 months old. Every spring is exciting, as he changes colors so much. He was born like a silver grulla color and is registered as a grulla....he is though, turning grey. He has loads of dun factor, but also has a large shoulder mark on one of his shoulders. I'm pretty sure it's not shoulder barring. He also has random spots that I thought might be 'bend or' spots, but have been too lazy to look that far back in his pedigree to see.
Has anyone seen a shoulder mark like this?? He has always had it, but it's getting darker the older he gets. Do you think it will turn into a bloody shoulder when turn completely grey? Any thoughts would be helpful.

My Phoebe is coming four. I have had her since early spring. In April-May, she went into a very heavy heat and until last week I hardly noticed her in heat again. Currently, she is in heat as heavy as she was last spring and she has been in this heat for at least 9 days.

Is this normal for this time of year? Phoebe is pastured 24x7 with other mares and as far as I know, the only stallions on the farm are in the barn and so she has very little interaction with them at all.

Is this normal?

My friend has two year old filly and she is a chestnut. The past two weeks we have noticed her muzzle turning very dark and now she is getting dark around her eyes. Her mom is a red chestnut and dad is a liver chestnut. Dad can be seen at castleberry cobs. His name is Tuscani Dundee. The mom is on the mare pages and her name is Queenie.
My question is if this is strange at the age of two? She turned two in May. Could she be changing color? Oh , I almost forgot, her mane is also getting very light as well. Thanks for any information you can share.

I'm getting an 18 year old mare in the spring. When I was talking to the people that own her now, they were saying that she has never had a foal and even if I tried to breed her (which I am NOT going to do!) she would not catch. Now I have no intentions of breeding her, but since at times there are other horses in the field I'll be renting for her, I was worried about possibly a stallion being brought. There have been stallions in the field before.

If one is brought, I will move her from that field and find somewhere else till the stallion is gone - there is no way I am taking the chance of her being bred!

But that really got me thinking. Have you heard of 18 year old maidens having foals or is it true they just will not catch?

I thought I would put this here because most likely this behavior has been seen a lot by most of you. I am just curious more than anything as to the "why" of it all.

The dark bay is my 18 year old Peruvian Paso that was gelded last December 08. He struts his stuff aned shows off but no longer tries to mount and seems to have lost the urge and can now be put out with my daughters 16 year old mare. He rarely drops anymore as well.

The mare goes into heat at the drop of a hat. She squirts and and sqeals. She's even shot him right in the face and most of the time he just wants to get away from her. They are both boarded at the same barn but he is next to a gelding and she is about 15 feet away. We try to let them out together for exercise on the weekends and this was shot with a cell phone (bad quality).

What is the tail wringing all about? If she is squirting does this mean she is in season? Is giving mixed signals typical mare behavior. I think I am just more interested in the tail thing. I never seen it go so fast. If anything I was entertained.

Hi,
I dont post on here very much but thought that someone on here could help me. I have an Arabian mare I am trying to sell. We breed and show American Shetland ponies and do not have the room or time for this beautiful mare. Plus she is just to beautiful to be standing in our pasture when someone with Arabs could do something with her. In the showring or the broodmare pen. Anyway, I was just wondering if someone could tell me a little about her mothers line? I found plenty on her sires lines. Her sire is *Mag. You can see her pedigree here http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/glf+magnifcnthope
Also I was told that she was shown as a yearling and was just wondering if someone could look that up?
Thanks for any help.

http://www.wolfrunfarm.com/WRF113.htm
I actually like both stallions on this page. But I don't think they are selling semen for the second guy. I don't know what the market is for a spotty WB but I like the look of the bottom stallion

A little while ago I introduced my new horse, Handy. Well, I've started riding her, just W/T, and she's willing, but I've run into something new (for me).

I had been told that she rides very smooth, but there was no mention of gaiting. Also, I'm no expert on gaiting. She does have a trot that is *very* easy to sit, but it is a quick, smooth, shuffle. No biggie, you say?

Well, I ride English and that shuffle is darn hard to post to:laughing6:!

And I'm a little concerned that she may just not be up to trotting yet and what we have is a defensive shuffle. See my thread in Meet the Horses and you'll see her conformation really shows the TB side of her, but no TB in my experience showed me that kinda shuffle.

Okay, for those that have followed along, you know my issues with Lily's rapidly expanding stomach. **How do I link to the other thread?**

Well, I still don't know for sure, but at this point I'm getting pretty certain that I need to start preparing and educating myself. I figure even if it works out that she isn't pregnant, there is no harm done in learning. Either I'll be able to use it at some point in life or someone else will.

If she is indeed pregnant, the earliest foaling date would be the end of January/start February we think and I'm not sure what the latest would be. Bear in mind, I'm talking Alberta winters.

So I need to know everything I can about owning a pregnant mare, about foaling, and about what to do after. If anyone wants to toss in some tips, some advice, lessons they have learned, recommended books, threads I should read/search for, anything, please feel free to add to the thread! They don't happen to have a "What to Expect When Your Expecting" for horses, do they?:laughing6:

As always, thank you so much for all the help!:D
