So, as a lot of you may know, I recently lost my beloved dog... but in the house have also been 2 cats, around about the same length of time as her. For the first day or two they seemed alright... but then they began to notice. Started with aimless wandering around the house, then late at night smelling all of her sleep spots. It's now escalated to wandering, deep meowing (like, confused/upset), and the cat that has been doing that meowing has also begun to roll around and very vigorously clean herself, many times chasing her tail and biting it/other various parts of her body. The other cat isn't quite as bad, but seems currently very "high strung" and restless.

I made the mistake of giving them cat nip, thinking it'd occupy them / allow them to crash after... the one, less upset cat managed to get his tooth stuck in his collar... almost broke his jaw. it took me holding him and his head down and my dad cutting the collar to free him. I am now left with a very badly bloodied and swollen arm/hand... anyway,

what can we do for them???

I think Pumpkin has started acting out for attention. He has a scratchy post--but now he's decided to start scratching my walls. This has only started since White Kitty showed up--so I think he's just asserting that this was his place first. Okay--I understand but it has GOT to stop.

I'm against declawing. I really really don't want to go that way--but how do I make him stop ripping my house apart??

Well I seem to have a dilema, my coming 6 month old kitten Damit nurses on my Beagles (Fonzy) jowles. He has done this since we have brought him home from the SPCA but he was weaned naturally from his Mom?
He will also actually "nurse" our female Aussie Tess. I'm not too sure how to stop this behavour as I can't put anything nasty tasting on Fonzy since it's his lips. We have gotten after him for months now and that hasn't stopped anything. Damit becomes so persestant at night you have to drop him off the side of the bed for him to get the hint. Fonzy usually doesn't even care, he just lets him suckle. But I saw today that Fonzy has a nursing blister on the side of his mouth  poor guy. I put a little lanoline on it since well I'm nursing right now and have it in ready supply.
But any ideas on how to stop him?

I lost a cat (male) to a urethra blockage, have heard of kidney stones, but not bladder stones! I saw a tiny spot on a urine clump when cleaning litter boxes Sun, it looked kind of orange. It really bugged me cause I've never seen that in the 51 years I've been alive. My first thought was blood, just a tiny speck on a good sized clump. Then I found a couple more, tiny specks. I love everyone of my kitties but one (of many) problems with having 15 cats mostly in the house is finding out who is doing what!! Well, yesterday it was obvious, poor Daisy spent most of her time in a litter box. She would look at me like "mommy I don't know what's happening. Make it stop!"
First thing this am we went to the vet. He gently squeezed her abdomen and the pee expressed was definitly bloody. I started cleaning it off the table, he said "NO!" I stopped and said "oh, get a sample, sorry!" He pulled some into a syrenge (sp?) and said her bladder is really hard. He wanted to keep her and xray for possible bladder stone. I looked it up, at home. If the stone blocks the bladder urine will bacl up, get toxic and cause death. She was peeing a decent amount mostly, but sometimes just enough to make a tiny clump. It must have been little enough to back up in the bladder to make it hard!
I have to wait till tomorrow for results, of the urine test, and find out how bad it is. She was still moving around good and wanting to play, that has to be a good sign!!
Please say a little prayer for Daisy.

Hey Guys and Gals,

First I would like everyone to know that I've already called the vet and we have an appointment tomorrow @ 5:00pm. I just need some suggestions on what to do until then.

Since yesterday morning my kitty has been VERY lethargic (sp?) and I have no idea whats up...not eating, not talking (he's very noisey), very little drinking, I'm not sure if he has used the kitty litter or not, and he seems to puke up anything he tries to put down and he's been sleeping A LOT.

About a year ago he ate a poisonous plant and went into renal kidney failure(sp?) but he pulled through. So now when he is even the slightest bit off I try to nip it in the butt...I've been told cats can get the flu even H1N1 not saying thats what he has but I guess it's a possiblity. So on that note he hasn't been let outside for almost 8 months now unless he is on his leash and supervised; and I can't find anything in the house that he may have gotten into?!?!?!

So for the time being he is in my room in a large dog kennel with fresh water, a small litter box, a blanket that he loves sleeping on and a heated gel pad under the blanket. He seems comfortable and he tried to drink a little when I put him in there. I just figure he shouldn't be eating if he isn't drinking as it'll probably cause more problems. I want to keep him in there tomorrow (all day if possible) cause he sleeps all day anways and I want to keep him rested. If I let him out my dog will insist on playing with him. Plus I can keep him from my other cat so she doesn't get sick...if she hasn't already caught it :S whatever he may or may not have.

Is here anything else I should do or change? Anyone have suggestions, comments, ideas? I'll keep everyone updated if you'd all like...?

Thanks so much,

Alicia and Zeus

My cats get dewormed monthly with ivermectin. Last week I noticed one of my cats seemed to be losing weight and was having loose stools. I took a sample into the vet and the results showed she has hookworms. I thought monthly deworming is supposed to get rid of worms?

Unfortunately, the vet was really busy that day and although I took two samples in from different cats, they only tested one, and they wouldn't tell me which cat it was they tested. Meanwhile I had already been waiting for more then an hour so I got fed up with them and left. I wanted them to test both cats seperately, but the guy I was talking to wouldn't make eye contact with me or anything, and although he said they tested both I had a feeling he wasn't being honest with me. They only charged me for one test too.

Since I am a multiple cat household and the cats are indoor/outdoor, I am wondering how do I get rid of hookworms? Should I continue to deworm them once a month or more than that? Are there any other products more effective against hookworms then ivermectin/heartgard? I also have dogs who could have been exposed too since the cats are outdoors sometimes.

I will be calling a different vet tomorrow to see if they have any recommendations, but I have a feeling they won't tell me anything since my cats histories are at the other place.

Everyone told me when we got Maverick that a lab mix would eat my house...we NEVER had a problem with Maverick chewing (except one book) but the cats have decided to eat the house.

I don't know what to do with them...you can't spank a cat---and the water bottle doesn't really work for them. any ideas??

Well todays the day "Mister" the little ditch kitten was dropped off for the big snip. We finally were able to get some financial help so for the grand total of $10 he'll get gelded. The dog pound has a few vets in the area that are willing to donate one day to castrations/spays at a very reduced price. Problem is the clinics fill up fast, thankfully I called first thing and was able to get him in. NOW IF I can just trap the neighbors cats (the neighbors have moved...left the cats) and get them in on the January clinic we'll be kitten free until the next moron decides that because we have a farm we needs more cats, dogs and whatevers.

Prayers/thoughts for Mister would be great as Iam sure this is going to be rough for him.

Hey Guys, so I was just wondering if I could get some advice on how to get some weight on my kitty.

Chili is a 3 year old female blue point Siamese, that is crazy active (the reason why she tends to be a bit thinner). Recently it looks like she has lost all of her chub from the summer. Keep in mind that she is one of those cats that doesn't overeat, even though she has an automatic feeder and the option to eat all day if she wanted to.

Im just wondering what kind of food you guys feed your overactive cats to help them keep weight on? Right now she is just on Whiska's adult mix, and has about a 1/3 can of wet food every other day.

I got him off a farm lady. She said his mom was a good mouser. I hope he turns into a good mouser too!
He's a friendly little cuss, full of mischief (like any cat) and he loves to curl up on my lap when I get home.
I have 2 4mo old kittens and I was wondering if it might be worth trying with them? They have excellent litter box manners so I don't want to mess them up, but at the same time I am curious to know if it would work with them.

My equine vet doesn't play fair. :laughing6: I stopped by the office to pay my bill, and there was a sign on the door for "free kittens, inquire at desk", and it had a picture of 2 adorable little kittens (so not fair, how can anyone pass up those sweet little faces). So I go in, pay my bill, and tell them that it's not fair to put up a sign like that, because it's sooooo hard to resist! So my vet says, "Want to see them?" Of course!! (Again, so not fair! She knows how much I love cats, and how my husband and I spoil ours rotten, so she knew that if the sign didn't get me, seeing them in person probably would!) She let me in and in front of me I see 12 adorable little kittens running around and playing. As if that wasn't tempting enough, she picks one up and hands it to me saying, "want to hold one?" Duh! :laughing6: Long story short, I came home with not one, but 2 new little kittens!! (My husband is no help either, because he told me I could have 4!!) I've got to be the biggest pushover for a cute, furry little face!!

Here are our new girls, Smudge and Beanie:

Beanie is the one looking at the camera in this picture. My husband named her Beanie because he said the little gray spot on top of her head makes her look like she's wearing a little beanie.

Smudge is facing the camera in this picture. I named her Smudge because the black spot on top of her head makes her look like she's got a smudge of grease on her head.

They are both such tiny little things, and both sweet and friendy as can be. Now I just hope the rest of our cats will accept them into the group quickly, and not hurt them. :(

This is better than the time I watched one of the horses come in from the pasture to go potty in the stall then go back out.:( Litter boxes are waaaay easier to clean than stalls!!!
