* Trading Saddles * < t.v. show >

There was a show on RFD-TV the other day called TRADING SADDLES. They took a World Champion HJ rider and a World Champion Barrell Racer and 'traded saddles' for the day. The barrel racer (forgot name) had to learn to post, diagonals, shoulder,hand, leg placement, 2 point positions, etc ...... Started out on rail work then trotted ground rails and graduated up to small oxers. At the end they dressed him in English attire as if he was to show. Breeches, jacket, tie, boots, helmet, etc.......He jumped the course !! He was on a gorgous horse, just aim and it will jump, had automatic lead changes as so forth, he just had to stay on. He did good. The HJ guy ( forgot name) started out with a green barrel horse (not green as in young, green as in a barrell horse in trg). The first thing the barrel racer told the HJ rider was "I don't care what your hands,shoulder,feet placements are.......just become one with the horse and hold on!!" He rode the green horse, just to learn his hand position and technique coming into /out of a barrell, then graduated up to a seasoned barrel horse. He did good. The barrel horse about 'unseated' him 1x coming out of the barrel so fast !!

It makes ya wonder what saddle you would trade for !!!!!!

How cool! I think that is a great idea, I think we would all have more respect for each other's disciplines if we had to try them!

What a great idea -- unfortunately we don't get that channel up here and I can't watch the program. I second Carri's post about the respect thing!!

I watched that episode! I was wondering how they got two guys so much alike to do the show...hehe...but it was cool. The riders were Lance Graves and Clay Farrell.

My kids laugh at me for watching that channel (yes, there is way too much Polka Joe and Cattle Auctions!), but that would be worth looking for. Cool idea--

So does making my gymkhana mare wear an english saddle count?

Yup, just did that this AM cause my seat needed some serious work, and riding in a barrel saddle let me get away with it!

Just discovered that myself when I put my cow horse back into English...amazing what bad habits my Western saddle puts up with and my English saddle won't! Also, pretty amazing the looks I get from the neighbors when I pull out the English gear....

Let us know what time this is on if they re-play it!
