Tarp Eating Horse...or Horse eating tarp?

Okay, well this was definatly one of the times I wish I had my camera!!

I decided I was going to see if my mare was afraid of tarps or not. So I brought a tarp into their pen - because we don't have a round pen or arena, and I figured she'd be comfortable there anyway. Well, I got the halter on my mare, spread out the tarp and was going to walk her over to it when Tecate decided he was going to lead the way. I was thinking, well I know he isn't afraid of them...

-side note - this is when tecate was about 3 or 4, we were on a trail ride in az just hubby his friend and I. There was a tarp on the trail, and I was going to get off and move it cause it was one of the dude trails. Well hubby - who at the time was just a boyfriend - decided to show off...

He started by just reaching down to grab it and move it off the trail, then had an idea to pull it over his head. Tecate didn't move, just stood there. Then Jon even had him walk around a bit and he was fine. When Tecate is used often, he is VERY trusting of his rider and will do anything.

Anyway fearless Tecate who was not haltered or anything just trots past us and over the tarp. But he stops just before the end of it, reaches down and grabs the tarp with his teeth and pulls on it!! Of course it ripped, he trotted off, and then turned around to look at us like "see I can do it"!!

I was kinda mad, but it was really funny too.

My mare was fine with the tarp, even as Tecate kept trotting over it with us and in front of us, etc. He didn't want to be left out.

Just thought I'd share my funny unexpected "training session"... Yeah right!!

Mine is the same way -- no fear of tarps!! Now if I could only get past the llama/alpaca issue . . . . . . .

What an awesome horse....
