You know you're a horse person when...

Tooday I was out at the ranch where I give lessons, and I met one of the ladies out there that breeds and trains DWBs.

She was turning out one of her foals out and also had her baby in tow in a stroller. I walk over and started talking to her about her daughter, Ella.

When I asked how old she was, she responded "Oh, she's a yearling."

I replied "The kid or the horse?"

and she responded, totally deadpan, "The kid!"

My kids have been sick and when I told the people at work that I wouldn't be in because I had to take my kid to the vet.! They laughed, but I actually wish I could find a doctor as good as my vet!

...you measure your wealth with the quantity and quality of hay you can buy!

With winter coming hay has been a discussion traveling around a lot at our place. We hay all year and geez I'm in Florida-I can't imagine how you all do it up north!

Where we are, we only need hay 1/2 the year. The rest of the time the horses are self feeding. And there is no better feeling than knowing you have hay for the entire winter and some to spare! I really feel for you guys in Florida - I paid $3.50 a bale for 1st cutting delivered for nice heavy bales. I have a feeling yours is a bit more...

You be very nice to the hay farmer and offer to take his grandkids riding whenever they wantl. I pay $2.00 a bale out of the field and $2.50 out of the barn.

Ah...I call kiddos "yearlings" all the time.

I can't seem to help it.

I also cluck and say whoa and stand.

Eesh.

Years ago, when I was running the horse camping program, I had all the kids ride single file, in the same order on the trail, every day for ten days. When we went in to town on the last night of camp, they unloaded out of the camp van, and entered the Pizza place lined up in the same order, single file, on foot! Did I have them trained or what?
