Why I love Heelers!

I've had Leo for 3 weeks now, and even though he's only 1/4 heeler... it's so obvious that he is!

I finally got adament about the leash thing. He wanted nothing to do with it... so I picked him up, carried him across the street to where the trail starts, and started walking. He either had to get up and go, or get dragged. He opted to walk. And he loved it! So now the little goober likes his leash, because it means he gets to go somewhere.

Haven't had to teach heel at all. He just does it. Trots right along next to me. He tried for a second to walk himself, I said no, not a toy. He listened. Not an issue since!

Put him in the pool when we got back.... now he runs right to the dog pool on our return. He likes wading.

So at 9 weeks old... he knows he has to have his leash to leave the yard, he loves the pool, likes going places. Loves people and other dogs.

Today a pitbull (big giant thing) got out of his gate. Leo was "bait" so I could put him back in his yard and chain the gate shut and tell the owners. He's so social. Pitbull was friendly too, I was a little worried though because he wasn't fixed.

There were two girls walking... he was so happy to see him, but they didn't want to pet him or anything. He actually looked sad over it.

I ran for a little bit... he stayed right where he was supposed to, at heel the whole time.

He's shaping up to be a great dog!

Ricca just adores him. I keep trying to get pictures of him terrorizing her, but every time Ricca hears the camera turn on she moves!

Such smart lil boogers arent they! I bet he is cute too - they always are-

I tried to rescue one once- Hated the hubby, tried to eat my cat and attacked me.. I gave it back- I think a really nice Farmer/cowboy got it ! A much better fit then my house =) . I got me a big lazy dog just like ME! heheh

Congrats on training him so quickly! Its nice to know people still know what a leash is actually for! -

I swear they know what the camera is! Ricca hears the little noises of it coming on and she jumps up and gets in my face. It's been raining... maybe I can catch them outside when they're distracted!

I love my heeler, Blue, (original, I know) to death. I absolutely adore her. That being said, wow, is she a handful. She loves to push her nose into my calves when I am walking. Apparently I don't walk fast enough or in the right direction. She never, ever nips, just pushes with her nose.

Pictures are a must please!!!
