Just when you say "no more pets"

Along comes one you just can't turn down.

I mean, seriously, who could say no to that face? He needed us.

Cody is a one year old Labrador (can you tell? ) who was owned by my aunt. Long story very short, she lives in town and Cody spent about 23 hours a day in a crate in the house. So when she asked if we would take care of him until her son came home from the Army, we said we would, on one condition: if we loved him, her son was not getting him back.

He's been with us for three weeks now and has gone from wild untrained terror to semi-wild mostly trained porch ornament. He fits right in with the "porch cats" and Fluppy. He is really a very nice dog who just had waaaaaay more energy than opportunity to expend it. After I trained him to walk nicely on a leash, I discovered he makes a great running partner. Fluppy would love to go but bless her little heart, her legs are a wee bit too short.

Edited to add one more picture:

Such a handsome fellow, and he looks to be quite happy to be out of the crate....

After I trained him to walk nicely on a leash, I discovered he makes a great running partner.

Does this mean his walk is actually a run!

His original walk was a "pull your arm out of the socket straining at the end of the leash to get to the next smell" sort of half-lunge half-run - yeah, not so much fun for handler or dog. He will actually walk very nicely now but he does much prefer to go for a jog!
