Update- The 2nd Annual Newfoundland Picnic

It's that time again! The 2nd Annual Newfoundland Picnic is on Saturday and I can't wait! Here's the link to last year's picnic...

1st Annual Newfie Pinic!

It was small, but we all had a great time! This year 70 invites have been sent out and the picnic is being held at Bon Echo Provincial Park. I haven't been there, but Yeti's first human mommy said it rivals Algonquin Park!

So I've been getting organized all week. I got time off work (I'll so be going through withdrawl - it's my therapy), I think I have my dad mostly trained to do the horses, pig and cats while mom and I are gone as well.

Tomorrow will be crazy. I have the vet coming out to do the horses at 9:30 and I have to have Yeti and Josie at the groomer's by 1pm (it's a long drive). Then I'll come home and milk my cows and then I'll go help mom milk cows at her work and we'll get done by 12:30. Our plan is to leave our house at 1 am and drive to Belleville (4+ hour drive). We HATE going through Toronto when it's crazy busy, plus having a big, black dog with us it's better to travel at night. We'll sleep in Belleville and we'll drive to North to Cloyne where the picnic is being held. Then we'll find some other place to sleep and we'll travel through Algonquin Park to hopefully see a moose! We should be home very late on Sunday.

Stay tuned - I'll post a lot of pics when we get back! I cant' wait to see how the pups last year have grown and there's new pups to meet as well!

So we got Yeti and Josie groomed today and I'm less than impressed. Yeti's whole butt is bald!!! I guess I'll have to keep her sitting, laying down or in the water tomorrow.

Hey guys, we're home!

We arrived at the motel at 4:30 am on Saturday morning. Boy were we tired!

We woke up the next morning at 9:30am and we were on the road shortly after bound for Bon Echo Provincial Park. Bon Echo is home to Mazinaw Lake which is the next deepest lake in Ontario excluding the Great Lakes. We arrived there at about 12:30 and it rained and rained. Because it was a Newfie picnic though we didn't care! Although a lot of my pictures didn't turn out. I think there was about 19 dogs there - most were Newfs.

My game was a hit, but we spent most of our time just sitting around talking. All in all it was a great time and we can't wait for next year!

We left there at about 7:30pm and instead of turning South and going home we turned North and set out for Algonquin Park (Hey Ginger - we drove right through Palmer Rapids)! Algonquin Park is 7,630 square kms of mostly untouched forests. It's home to black bears, moose, deer, beavers etc... I was so hoping to see a moose even though this is not the time of year to see them, sadly that never happened, the only things I saw were a frog and a chipmunk that Yeti almost killed and a deer (outside of the Park)!

When we got to the east gate of the park we dicovered that all of the inns, motels, hotels etc.. were full so we roughed it and slept in the truck as it was pouring rain - that was fun! My mom slept across both front seats, and I slept in the back with all of our stuff, squished right into the door by my Newfie! Fond memories right there.

Sunday morning arrived finally and we were greeted by somewhat nicer weather.

We stopped at many tourist places and bought lots of things to remember our time there. We left the Park's west gate at around 3:30pm and made our way home. We arrived home at around 7:45pm. It would have been sooner but this happened - http://www.canada.com/edmontonjourna...b-2906e866243e That shut down two of the major highways we were trying to use to get home, so we got off at Barrie and used back roads to get home.

I'll shut up now, here's the pics of our journey...

Yeti at the motel - she was so good throughout the trip!

Awww! Me and one of the youngest members at the Newf picnic! This little boy is Yeti's full sibling, ain't he cute? He's 7 weeks old.

Yeti in Lake Mazinaw.

Yeti and her mom, Sydney.

A bunch of Newfies in the water, Yeti's in there somewhere.

This is Mazinaw (named after the lake). They called him Mazzy. He was not related to any of the Newfs there, but he was so huge, I just had to share! He was only 14 months!

A sign in Algonquin Park's interior! I was thrilled to see this.

We stopped and hiked up Hardwood Trail (this is where Yeti tried to kill the chipmunk). At the top there was a memorial thing and a bench that looked out over one of many of the park's lakes. Breathtaking.

On the way home. My baby was exhausted.

This was just neat. This is right near Orangeville and they have tonnes of wind turbines, not something you see everyday.

Even with all the rain, and rough "camping" sounds like you had a blast.. Yeti looked so worn out in that photo.. I can't imagine that wearing her out is easy..

Love all the newfies.. holy moly but they are big dogs.. even that baby is almost the size of most adult canines at our house..

Awesome photos Sam... I am glad you guys had fun..

We took more pics, but they have to be developed. I may scan more in if there are any good ones.

Can you imagine the amount of grooming fuzz a passel of Newfs would generate? You could stuff a mattress... okay, random thought but gosh their big and fuzzy!

That's just such a neet thing you and your mom going to a Newfie Picnic, and all of those dogs got along. That's wonderful. And reassuring too.

Yeti is adorable

GLD, I just added 60 pics on to Facebook so you can check all them out too well you rest your ankle!

Here's some of the better ones IMO...

This is Digby, Yeti's dad. He's so easy to take pictures of...

This is Yeti and her younger sister Chevon. Chevon has a ribbon in her hair!

Mazinaw & his human!

They played my game!

Just to compare: Yeti is 2 years old, Mazinaw is 14 months!!! He'll be a big boy!

Yeti trying to kill a chipmunk that was harassing her on a trail in Algonquin Park.

This is at the Visitor's Centre within Algonquin Park. You can go out on to a balcony that's a few stories up and look out over the park, breath taking.

And some dead, stuffed moose that were in the Centre as well. I didn't see any live ones so this had to do.

And I found this picture quite disturbing for obvious reasons.... See what I mean, creepy guys seem to follow me around.

Great pictures Sam! I always love the Newfie Picnic photos. Some really big Puppies! He will keep you warm on a Canadian winter day eh!

Love the picture of Yeti on the way home asleep...I am sure that doesn't happen often does it?

Wow, those dogs are bigs. You took some great pictures of the Park. I always love going through there in the spring as you see lots of Moose on the side of the road. One time we counted 32. Another time we stopped to take pictures and we actually had to move the car because the moose was not going to go around.
