Is it a snorting like trying to clear her throat? I have a dog that does that too and was told it was allergies.

If she is drawing air in and snorting and seems really tense she may just have a 'reverse sneeze.' They are no big deal, sound awful, and almost all dogs do it at some time or another. As long as it is over with after about a minute and she seems ok.....really hard to say though without hearing it. Reverse sneezes have a very distinctive sound.

About all I can advise is take her to the vet. I don't think this could be the problem but is she on heartworm prevention? She sure is cute and I hope everything works out the best for you and her.

I agree with Luvridn, it might be a revearse sneeze. I've never had a dog that didn't do it every once in a while. As far as what other breed she might be...
She looks definately Pit and maybe some kind of terrier mix. She sure is cute.

With all the respiratory problems a dog can have I'd say a trip to the vet could relieve your worries. It could be a partially collapsed trachea. When my dogs have a severe episode I massage their throat by gently stroking from the chin downward. It helps to relax them and ease the spasm. Being out in the cold and then coming in where it's warm often triggers an attack in my dogs. I sold a Maltese pup that has developed the problem and the woman told me her vet said it is caused from her dog tugging on the leash so she now uses a harness.

Weizer definitely looks pit, could she possibly have Lab too?

Pitbull/Lab/terrier would be my guess , she's cute though!

Allergies have been mentioned, but if she'd normally outside, and then comes in and does it - are you guys smokers? If so, maybe she's allergic to smoke? Or lots of air fresheners, or something like that?

Is it when she runs that this occurs?, if so, she probably breathed too fast and she couldnt catch her breathe, but she should be fine if it stops after a few big snortings.... It also could be a collapsed lung or bloating. If its a collapsed lung, most likely she would be down on her side and/or her tongue looking dark redish-blue-ish and having a serious problem breathing. If its bloating, that means there's too much air in the stomach, an symptoms are: the heavy breathing, like labor breathing, and bloating of the stomach[like a hotair balloon type of look you would see in her belly] if any of the last two...then you got a serious problem and need a vet.

Hope she is alright, and nothing serious.

Puppies..

Our little doxie Molly does that huffy noise - a half a benedryl tablet (not capsule) works great - it is caused by a dry nasal passage from the enviroment according to the vet.. Worth a try if she does it again..

Gbar, our little doxies do it too. I call it long snout disease!

Massaging helps.

They normally get excited and then have the 'reverse sneezing' going on.

First time Molly did it I was so paniced.. rushed her to the vet the next day - he thought I was a bit off (probably true) but kindly told me about the benedryl.. It works so well with her.. of course now she is also on pheno for siezures - but she is so precious to me, anything to make her happy and comfortable..
