My 2 year old Malamute has made me very proud. He tested and received his Canine Good Citizen Saturday. He is such a good boy. I am trying to attach a pic, wish me luck.

Good job, I did it with my girl. We didn't do any of the practice classes, just went in and tested.

Congratulations!!! He is beautiful! Very hard with a non-traditional obedience breed - would love to encourage you to continue training and show in obedience. I love to see the non traditional breeds in the ring showing that they can do this just as well (if not better) than the Border Collies and Goldens. Consider continuining his training and go for the CD or the NA!!

Congratulations!

And I agree that some dogs are easier to train that others and a two year old to boot! So you both did a doubly good job! More people should go for that kind of thing. He is a gorgeous young man to boot!

So what is CD and NA?? My son showed him in 4-h last year and my daughter is showing him this year. She is the one who showed him for the cgc. But we would like to continue with him as he is a really good boy. Except for the whole have to keep him on a leash thing He is a typical husky when it comes to running.

C.D. stands for Companion Dog - both AKC and UKC offer the title - it would be the next step in progression for a title. The dog needs to heel on leash, off leash - do a figure 8 on leash, a recall, a one min. sit and a three min down in a line with other dogs with the handler across the room. Have your kids ask their 4H instructor. I have judge the Missouri State Fair 4H a couple of times for the kids in obedience - and those dogs were good enough hands down to enter in AKC or UKC and pass.

NA is Novice Agility (AKC) or UKC it is called the Ag-1 (Agility One). The dog has to have some level of control, know a sit and a down and then you can train the jumps and tunnels - the kids would LOVE IT! Several different kinds of jumps, an open tunnel, a closed tunnel, a teeter totter and an A frame are typically seen at the beginning level of agility.

And Carting !- you could teach him to pull a cart - he is meant to pull heavy loads and you could introduce him to pulling a cart - that would be very fun for the kids. Ask your 4H folks, or contact a local obedience group (club) in your area and see if they have any leads on classes and things.

He did novice agility& showmanship last year at our local show. He took first in all. Next year we are hoping to go to the state 4-h show. He is in a group now, but it is a new group. Hoping to expand into more showing. He loves the agility course, as a matter of fact it was the only time off leash that he just followed along. He was so into what he was doing he didnt realize my son lost his leash. oops! But all turned out well. I will have to ask about the cart. That is what they are meant for, pulling. Could be interesting and something I might be able to interest my son in doing with him. Thanks for the information.

I did Agility with my dane and it was a blast-now considering hitching him to a cart and getting some stuff done.....hmmmm
You have one very pretty dog there-are huskies runners? Is that why he has to stay on a leash?

huskies and malamutes both are runners. This one stays just out of your reach and I swear he is laughing at you. We picked up a 5 year old female husky about 6 months ago and her old owners let her run all the time. She is a little confused by our putting her on a leash and living in the house.
I can see a Great Dane with a cart, bet you could cover some ground there.

Congrates. Abby my Golden who is not even a year old has her CGC, RN and 2/3 to her CD in AKC. It is so much fun to work with them and then go and show what you and they can do.

Keep going and if you do not want to jump right to the Obediance ring try Rally in AKC. It would be the next step from the CGC before the CD.

Keep up the good work.

That is super! Congratulations! I saw some dogs in a parade once that were well trained. They were like poetry in motion.

I'd think your kids would get a blast from http://www.dogpoweredscooter.com/ That would be cool too.
