Frontline Question

So...the fleas have been terrible this year, due to the weather, I'm sure. I used Frontline last month and it was a MIRACLE!

I used it two days ago and all of my dogs have fleas now. It's like it was a flea magnet this month instead of a flea repellant.

Can the chemical in Frontline go bad? Maybe it was a bad batch? Think I could waste more money and get another box and re-treat?

I use Revolution... Flea and worm provention in one tube... Not sure if the chemical can go bad though...

I never had any luck with Frontline, I use either Advantage or Advantixs
and they both work good.

Yep, I had the same problem with my small dog on frontline. It was a magnet for fleas. I switch to Advantix it seems to be the only one I have found that does what it is suppose to do.

Frontline hasn't worked at all for me this year. I like K-9 Advantix, it has been working.

The fleas are developing a resistance to Frontline, we are having a lot of problems with it. Try Advantage or Revolution. I doubt the vet will be able to give your money back for the Frontline, but try it and see!

It wouldn't have been a big deal to me but I bought 12 month's worth. I called the number on the back of the Frontline box and if you send it back to them, they will send you your money back. At least that's what they did for me several months ago... Make sure you have the box in hand if you do call them.

I also use Bio-spot.. Cheap and never had much of a problem. I did see a flea on Emmie. I dont think the fleas are staying on her, but we have this darn stray cat that she has to maul every night. I think the fleas from the cat are jumping on her a biting her. I see flea bites on her belly, but not much sign of fleas. Even the groom just said she didn't have fleas.

Orchid- me & Cash just went last Friday to one of the local supply stores & they had Biospot there- I was a little leery (b/c I've never heard of it) but Cash did some research & she said it has everything that the others have in it).. so, we went & bought it & put it on them & they have really seemed to do good w/it.. they aren't scratching like they were! And there is also a biospot shampoo that we bought & it smells good, & my GSD's coat has been very soft instead of "harsh" feeling!

What people dont get, is that the fleas have to jump ON them, and bite them in order to die, since the stuff is absorbed into the skin. So if you see fleas, just keep an eye on them, they should dwindle in number as the dog has it on longer.

Also only wash in soap free, detergent free shampoo or it will wash off.

Also you have to alternate your topicals. One month use Frontline, next use Advantage, and so on. The fleas build an immunity to the one, and it no longer works.

(from a groomer... )

I have never had a flea problem either dogs or my kitty using Frontline Plus. We had them really bad at Mom's house for awhile but as soon as we bombed the house and frontlined all the animal it was like instant flea-death.

I have actually found some on me after I get home from work and will call Lu to me so her frontline-ness can kill them. XD

But yeah if it didn't work I'd send it back for a refund and maybe try something else.

ETA: You can NOT bathe your dog 48 hours before or after treatment. It does something to their coat and makes the Frontline not work.

If the dog was wet (after a bath) when you applied it then it wouldn't be as effective. Or if you bathed him shortly after the application? Also, use baby shampoo for dogs that have flea preventative on them.

The fleas may also have developed resitance.

Frontline also seems to have a shorter effective time than Advantage or Advantix. But it should work for 2 days!

I use Frontline, and we have not had a problem at all, in fact I haven't applied it for abotu 2 months, and we are still flea free!

If you are considering Advantix, I believe (at least at one time) that it was dangerous for cats, so if you have cats that sleep or rub on your dog, don't use Advantix.

I have been using the frontline on my dog ever since we have had her (nearly 2 years) and have not had a problem at all. But, at the groomers they told me a lot of their other clients have been having problems with it not working. I also give my dog a couple of brewers yeast tablet every night it is suppose to be good for their skin and coat (my dog had dry flakey skin). The brewers yeast also has garlic in it so they say it helps keep the fleas away. Do not know if that is true but I have not had any problems between the frontline plus and the brewers yeast.

(Just a side note) at the vet clinic I work at we do recommend frontline and never seem to have a problem with it working, but the vet says that she does not recommend Canine Revolution because many people use it for both heartworms and fleas yet they do not apply the product correctly thus the medication does not take effect and we have had dogs come up heartworm positive while getting a monthy treatment of Revolution. Just thought I would let everyone know. The best idea is to apply advantage and use Intercepter monthly. JMO!!! THANKS

It purges the skin of it's natural oils, and the way that Frontline (and other flea meds) work is by traveling throughout the coat via natural oils. Without them, all is lost.

I was wondering the same thing. I've never had a problem with Frontline until I used the last application. I questioned the longevity of it's shelf life. I thought mine could have gone bad due to the heat wave we had this summer but then it could be I didn't apply enough to each animal as I buy for the large breed dog and divide the vial up amongst my little dogs. I find it's more cost effective that way.

I did the same thing farmergal, I bought the bigger ones and split it up. (per direction of my vet). But it just flat didn't work this year. I have a big boxer X dog and I put his full dose on and still had fleas. I know it worked super for me last year anyway, but no00t this year.
