Fleas

Grr... to add to the frustration of my previous post... my roomate got 3 kittens who were all infested with fleas (they also had worms and have been treated).. now her dog is infested as well as my 2! My one dog has chewed her rear to the skin and it's bad... I obviously have to go to the store and get some medication and such.. any other tips?

ADVANTAGE!!!! It's one of the best on the market right now. Be careful if you get something from the feed store that it's safe for cats.

Anything over the counter is a waste of money. Go to your vet and ask for a flea med. EVERYONE needs to be treated. The best flea preventives are a spot on that is applied between the shoulder blades. Advantage, Frontline, Advantex just to name a few work well some better than others.

Fleas are carriers of other parasites so I'd worm them too. Check the pets ears for ear mites. Depending on how bad an infestation you have it can take several months of treating the pet to be rid of all fleas.

I personally like Revolution. There is some for cats and dogs.
Similar to Advantage, but Advantage has insecticide where as Revolution does not.
Both go on the skin on the back of the animals neck, between their shoulder blades.
