Unhappy Rip: Brutis long story.. I will miss you!!

Last night was horrible. It all started around 9:30-10:45. My daughter went to call her dog Babe back into the house. Babe being stubborn like she sometimes can be and took her sweat time. Mean while, she was playin around on the deck with a small flash light. She saw Brutis on ground by the deck, then all at once she started shreaking. Let me tell you when a girl starts screaming like that, you go running.

I ran out side and she said look at Brutis. I looked at him and at first I didn't see it either, but then I did. Holly crap . I ran back in the house called my husband at work told him - not much help there since he couldn't do anything.

Called a vet and she said that she would meet us at her office in 20 min. Ok, I grabed some old towels and a blanket. My daughter ran and got a cart.
I was trying to figure out how to pick up a 40 - 50 lb dog when his whole one side was completely gone. From his front leg to his back leg and from his stomach to 2 inches from his back spin the only thing that was there was muscle and some fat left. Yes, even some of the layers of fat were ripped off.
We got him on the cart, my daughter pushed it up to the truck with me holding onto the dog. I figured out that you can't lift a dog into a very large truck when they have no skin. So we got a large porta kennel and he went it that. We then lefted that into the back of the truck, and I tied the blanket around the kennel as to keep him warm and out of the wind for the drive. It seemed like it took forever, it was 16 miles away.
Pull, up to the vet clinic, and we rushed him in. Layed him on the floor and started checking him over. We have no clue as to what actually happened to him. He lost alot of blood, and had a broken leg, and some internal injuries. After being there for 4 hours. My daughter and I decided that he need to be put down. His chances for recovery were very slim, and he would be in alot of pain. He had no other marks or scrapes or even hair missing except for the one side.

The vet gave him the shot, and he winned and cried and then went to sleep.

I will forever love you my friend. You can never be replaced..
He was my dream dog. I have always wanted a Shar-pei since I could remember 9 1/2 yrs ago my dream came true with you Bruties..

Here is a picture of him that was taken a few months ago with a couple of our labs. He was a little camera shy so he's in the back. (takes after his owner)

Rest is peace, my sweet friend. I'm so sorry that I couldn't heal you.. You ment everything to me..

Thank you every for your nice comments. This has been an extremely rough day.. I've been hiding in my office most of day. Trying not to cry but its hard not too.
I've worked in a vet clinic and have seen lots of bad things before but nothing like that. I feel so bad..

(((((((((HUGS))))))) from Northern Virginia. Your poor dog. My question would be not only what happened to him, but considering the shape he was in, how in the world did he make it back to your house!? Rest in peace, Brutis.

Thanks eveyone again..
Not knowing what happended to him or what he actually went through is just horrible. I feel sick to my stomach that I couldn't help him. I keep thinking that maybe I could have prevented this.. but, so far I don't know what happened to him..
I feel like a bad owner.. right now..

Hubby gets the task of making a grave. He might have it done by the time I get home.. When I left this morning he hadn't seen him yet.. Maybe he can figure out what caused it..

Nope, not a coyote (sp) either. That would have been more bit marks and it didn't look like he had bit marks.

Somebody at work this morning thought it was no big deal because we have so many other dogs.. I was . It doesn't matter if we have 1 or 7 they are all special and get loved. I just couldn't believe that someone would say that..

Tell that person then he shouldn't feel too badly, if, God forbid, a relative dies as he has several..

Did the vet have any clue - a pack of dogs, caught on a wire fence, car..

The only saving grace is that with a wound that extensive, the body's shock defense would have rendered much of it painless...

for your friend and companion.. May he rest in peace, and be waiting for you at heaven's gate...

Vet thought at first it was a car, but after she examined for a long time, she didn't know..
When I talked to hubby this morning for 2 minutes - as I was already late for work . He said that he would look, he thought that maybe the dog went in by the cattle and got attacked. The dogs normally don't go in there. But, when we had a cow out a week ago. One of the dogs were standing 3 feet away from hubby and the cow rolled him.

He didn't get hurt because we were right there.. So I don't know for sure what happened. I seen him yesturday morning when I left for work. I didn't see him when I came home from work but thats not unusual.

I have no clue how he made it back to our house from where ever he got hurt. I seen hair patches in the lawn this morning but it didn't give me a clue as to what direction he came from. I also, didn't have time to look real hard. So maybe when I get home I will know something.
