Question Orijen dog food

Has anyone here ever tried this brand? I've been looking into it, and so far, it looks pretty good. I was just wondering if I could get more thoughts on it. Thanks!

I have never heard of it, sorry, maybe it is a northern thing?

Yup, I sell it.

Excellent dog food. My vets have been really impressed with it; it is low carb, has no grain, and they make two types now; their regular diet and their fish/allergen formula. According to sources, they will soon be coming out with a buffalo diet as well.

I like it because it is one of the few foods that I know of that anyone can tour their production factory. Their sources are completely tracked, from beginning to end; and they also test all their ingredients every five minutes, I think? I'd have to go back and look, so don't quote me on it, it may be more often than that, even.

We've been really happy with it, so have the customers.

The only problem that I had with it was with my older Shepherd; she needs more carbs to maintain her weight. Having her on it dropped her five pounds in two weeks, so we had to take her off. She looked good, she was happy and healthy and eating well, but just couldn't eat enough to keep her weight stable.

... I kind of wish I had that problem with the other dogs.

Yep, good stuff--made two hrs from me, near Edmonton, Alberta. I use the Acana line, as my dogs also seem to require the extra carbs, but it is also a good food, and they do so well on it. Both are made by Champion Petfoods.

Thanks! I'm trying to find a new food for my dogs, and so far, this is the best that I've found. Shepdog, who do you think it would work on a Dachshund/Chi mix? I'm getting her in a few days, and I want to start her out right

Unfortunately, I probably wouldn't recommend it. I actually brought your question up in the car to Mellowdane tonight, and she agreed with what I had thought about the question.

Orijen is a great food, but with those little guys, you have to be concerned about blood sugar levels and hypoglycemia.

The thing about low carb diets of any sort is that they naturally cause your blood-sugar levels to be lower and more steady, which is great, but when you combine it with an animal who has a tendency towards hypoglycemia, I'd be a bit concerned. As much as I like Orijen, I would be concerned about your new puppy having an episode on it if not monitored very closely. I would try another food that had more carbohydrates in it, if it was my puppy.

Does that make any sense?
