dog cough?

ok we have a GSP who just turned a yr old in June she is up to date on all vaccines and she isn't around strange dogs and she has free roam to go in or out, the problem is she has this cough its not constant and its only like once or twice a day for only like a couple coughs it only started a day ago she hasn't changed in her eating habits and hasn't been acting any different then normal. I had thought maybe she was getting water up her nose when she got a drink? as she does make a mess! or could this be something else??

Check her for heartworms...JUST incase. Coughing is a symptom of them. Hopefully she just got something up her nose though....

Thumbs up

Get your pup checked out by a vet. It is probably nothing, but better safe than sorry. So many problems can be easily delt with if caught early, and be very expensive (or worse) later on.

there are SO many things that this could be, I couldn't even begin to name. Bring the dog to the vet, as it could be serious, or not. Don't know!!

Has she been vaccinated against bordatello (aka Kennel cough)? A tell tale sign is to rub their throat and if they start coughing it's probably kennel cough. It's treatable with antibiotics. It sounds awful though.

The kennel cough question is a good one. I've actually seen it cause kennel cough. The intranasal is a live vaccine, the kennel I used to work for actually recommended against getting it... as the only outbreak we had was in vaccinated dogs!

What ever it is, it's worth getting it checked out. It's probably nothing major, but better safe than sorry

This time of year, it's probably allergies or sinus drainage. If she's been on heartworm prevention, I'd bet on the allergies.
