Scratched throat question - again.

As some of you know from prior posts, Butch had a scratched throat. How long would you think that would take to heal?

It was infected when we went to the vet a week ago. He was on antibiotics, it seemed to be getting better. After the AB's, he was still hoarse and mucusy, so we're trying antihistamines.

HOWEVER, he's hoarser today than he was yesterday! And no, I can't seem to keep him from barking. Those cats are creeping around with a plot to kill us all and he HAS to express that somehow!

This will be a strange question, but, how are his anal glands? Sometimes if they lick back there and swallow any of that yucky stuff, it can be a constant source of infection. Just a thought.....

Trucker did his last spring and it's so close to being healed up. He had a sore about the size of the end of your thumb in the way back of the roof of his mouth. Today it's the size of the end of my pinky but just a "red" spot instead of an open sore.
It hasn't bothered him for a while though, but he does irritate it from time to time which is probably why it's still kind of there.
But he never lost his voice.

It depends on how big the sore is. It can take a while to heal, especially since it is in a moist area, not exposed to much air, can't really scab over, and is full of bacteria. I know, dog's mouths are cleaner than ours, but still! Full of bacteria! I would suspect it may still be infected, did he finish his antibiotics all the way? Do you have any left? What was he on? Liquid or capsule form?

He finished the AB's...they were tablet form. He's not lethargic, not throwing up, no diarrhea, and no temp. In fact, he wants to play again, which is great. It's just that his bark is still gone and he's all raspy when he breathes!

The Zev cough syrup for horse can be used on dogs too and it works great! We mixed it with cornsyrup to make it taste a bit better and coat the throat more.
