Help with Dog Ad?

Okay, I finally made the crappy descion to begin the search for a new home for my Lab, Shaydee. She just deserves way more attention then she gets, and I hate seeing her stuck in her crate when she could be out having fun.

Now I am only looking for a "perfect" home for her. I am trying to make an ad that is honest, with out scaring anyone away because she is a good dog and I'll keep her before she goes anywhere less then superior. I've never personally tried to rehome one of my dogs before, generally I think if you get a companion they should stay with you till thier dying day. However, I just KNOW the perfect family is out there for her, and she would be much better off!

Again. Not an emergency, I will NOT have her go anywhere less then perfect, she is fed, played with and loved her, I just think she can do better.

Anyone have any suggestions? I don't mind giving her away, except I don't want someone thing "Great, free Dog!" and not realizing the responsibility, but I know she isn't a cute puppy. I was sort of thinking of asking the new owner for a donation which I would then give to a local shelter? What do you all think?

Here's here ad her on Horsetopia: http://horsetopia.horse-for-sale.org...d-tack/l257955

Thanks for any help!

personally I would raise the price on her. And just a heads up make sure she doesn't go to a breeding place. For a reg. lab not fixed I can easily see someone doing that. If she likes to play like what you said, I would say that you should add: would love to see her go to a family with kids.

I would mention if shes current on shots, rabies, ect. If she is I would at least put 100 on her and willing to negotiate.

I agree with above. Seems like people may also want her for breeding. Is it possible for you to spay her before you find her a new home? Or maybe make the adoption fee the price of a spay and reimburse them when she is spayed. I do love the idea of a adoption fee that goes to a animal shelter.

She's a beautiful dog. It's to bad you can't work out the kinks and keep her.
I'd love to have her share my happy pack but staying away from the road is a must I'm afraid and it sounds like she loves to run.
She looks like my Ely May, my first puppy I got when we bought the farm. Makes my heart ache knowing I lost her to the road. I wish you luck in finding her a loving home.

I would go the the breed rescue........that way, folks who are used to labs would have her in a foster home, and they thoroughly screen all potential adopters. They usually have contact with organizations that provide jobs for dogs...search and rescue, agility.......that sort of thing. Just google dog breed rescue, and you will come up with all the various breeds...just contact a lab one!
I agree with the fear of someone taking her for breeding....sheesh , there's enough unwanted dogs around already.......
She is beautiful.......I have had labs for years (rescue dogs) , then went to a labX rescue pooch........ can always count on the lab for charm and personality
good luck

While I agree with many of the suggestions offered (especially spaying, because it will eliminate many of the 'suspect' adopters who tell you what you want to hear in the hopes of cashing in on a litter of puppies) I also want to give a warning.

Research ANY breed rescue if you decide to go that route. In the last five years or so, there's been a big resurgence of those who tout themselves as a 'breed rescue' ... but al they really are is a 'resale' system for purebred dogs.

I have done breed rescue for years - we had someone step in here not too long ago and go around "rescuing" German Shepherds. What they were actually doing with their rescues was popping fake German papers/pedigrees onto the dogs that did not have them already and selling them as "Trained Protection/ Imported Breeding" dogs. Dead serious. We had to really go to the wall to get the word out and get it stopped, and we're talking thousands and thousands of dollars.

And many unsuspecting buyers don't research like they should either.

Anyone can say they are a rescue. Most of them are on the up and up, but those that aren't can be really a bad place for a dog to fall into. That's not saying the ones that Ally has given are like that; I'm just letting you know to be a bit cautious until you know they're on the up and up!

I was sort of thinking of asking the new owner for a donation which I would then give to a local shelter? What do you all think?

I think that's a very nice gesture, myself. Or you could basically set her adoption as the cost of the spay. I know I'd be happy to pay for a spay on a dog (which is pretty much what I did on my one Corgi) if that was the price of the adoption.

I wish you the best of luck finding her a home! She seems like a sweet (if active!) dog.
