Won't Eat

Urgh, so I'm currently fostering my own dog (long story, don't ask). She's a 12+ (I rescued her, so we're guessing on her age) female Dal who's been living with my parents for about 3 years.

She's devoted to my dad.

I brought her home yesterday (9 hour drive from Texas to Kansas), and her last meal was yesterday in the morning.

I've tried feeding her all day today and usually she scarfs her food down and licks the bowl clean.

She hasn't eaten today, and she's so hungry her tummy's growling.

My guess is she's pining for my dad, but does anyone have any suggestions as to how to coax her to eat? Or just wait her out (she'll eat when she gets hungry enough)?

She's eating out of the same dish and eating the same food as she was eating at mom and dad's, so that hasn't changed.

I know she's glad to be with me again (she's back to being my shadow), but...it's this whole eating thing.

Help?

Awwww...sorry to hear she seems depressed. Are you feeding her just the regular dog food, or are you trying special stuff as well? Cheese and/or hamburger, or bits of bacon always got my old gal eating when she wasn't interested. good luck......give her lots of hugs and kisses from Pa...Oh, and you too!

I'd do hamburger and rice. You could try gravy... but that might give her a bit of a tummy ache. Are there any kinds of treats that she may eat? Treats are better than nothing!

I tossed some of our leftover hotdogs and hotdog buns first into her mouth and then into her dish. She ate them and picked around her food, but eventually she gave in and ate.

Thanks for the suggestions because I bet she's going to be a trouble case for the next few days/weeks until she settles back in to living with me.

Glad to hear she's eating. Have you got one of dad's ol' smelly shirts? My grandmother's adopted boy came after a family tragedy. My aunt was no longer around, but we put one of her old shirts in his bed. He would go and lie on it for comfort when he was frazzled. It seemed to help him adjust to a new home.

There are a few dogs who don't like beef broth, but not many. Dog food soaked in beef broth will almost always get my dogs to eat.
