Help the ASPCA help animals

You may think this is a plea for money, but it's not, I assure you. I was on their site trying to find information on KY laws regarding dogs and came across some interesting stuff.

The ASPCA is one of the leading supporters for animals and while I don't get all wrapped up with any animal rights organization, this one had some topics that are near and dear to me. So, I thought if I could find something to support and be active on, that others here may as well.

http://www.aspca.org/site/PageServer...ame=lobby_home

If you'd be so kind as to click on the link above, it should take you to the lobby home page for the ASPCA. You'll notice two sections, one titled federal action alerts and other titled state action alerts. ANY pet owner should be aware of this site for the simple fact that laws have been passed against pet owners, often times without them being aware of it. This is a way to not only be aware, but to let your state reps know you're aware.

The one action alert that grabbed my attention was the one about insurance companies not covering owners of certain breeds. As a pit bull owner, I fall into that category. To know that the ASPCA is trying to do something about that, well it just warms my heart.

Anyway, there are several alerts dealing with dogs, horses, and other types of animals. As the animal lovers we are here on horsetopia, it stands to reason we should try and take a more active approach. You can't get much easier than how the ASPCA made it for us. Simply sign up and type in your name and address for whatever alert you want to support and they'll send the letter via email to your state reps and senators.

Check it out, sign a few letters, do something in support of the animals. Every little bit helps and it's certainly better than doing nothing.

I also own a pitty, and he is the sweetest boy you will ever meet. I have been getting more and more worried about what the government will do about all the complaints against them. They have banned them completly in Ontario, no more breeding, and they must have a muzzle on when outside at all times. They have been disscusing it here in alberta, and i am rather worried. Not many people know this but in Canada there has been one death from a pitbull attack, in all recorded history. You know how many deaths from labs? 81. If you balance out the population of each 80 labs for every one pitbull persay, then they really are about equal in how aggresive they are. It is not fair to target one breed.

I will definatly check that site out!

ASPCA

That's why they got my donations last year at Christmas time! I made a donation for all my gifts.... Between their work to save animals on a daily basis and all the work they did during Katrina, they are very important to us all.

And, I own a Pit Bull that's the sweetest, most loving dog around.

The biggest problem I have with laws against pit bulls is half the time, other breeds of dog are mistaken for pit bulls.

This website shows how easy it is to mistake another breed for a pit bull.

The other thing is, the term "pit bull" isn't a breed. (With exception to the American Pit Bull Terrier.) It's used to describe three other breeds of dog. I just love how they can pass breed specific legislation on something that they can't identify properly.
