Yucky Subject...

Warning for people who have sensitive stomachs!!!!!..... My 9 year old Papillon, about 6 months ago had an abcessed anal gland. We took her to the vet, had to flush it out twice a day for a week, it ended up healing good, the vet said if she started rubbing her butt on the floor again that we need to get her checked or have her anal glands checked... Well she started rubbing again, so I expressed her anal glands and lets just say it was BAD!!! The fluid is supposed to be a LIQUID and brown... Her's was white and as thick as cottage cheese!!!! What does this mean????

Sounds like an infection to me... She might need to be put on some antibiotics. and be flushed back there again.

Poor thing.

My guess is anal sacculitis, or the anal sacs have become infected. If that is the case, you will require antibiotics for her. Best to take her to the vet and have her checked out and confirm the diagnosis, and get her on meds asap if she requires them.

Hope she feels better soon!

she deffinately showed that it hurt, she turned around like she was ready to eat my hands and yelped. She will be going to the vet Monday, I'm glad we atleast got them expressed, from what I'm reading, that takes a lot of the pressure away. Thanks!

Not good... You need to get them checked out... It should be a brown liquid like you said, and very bad ones are chunky and dark, not white... =(

Oh, except one time I expressed a dogs and found all kinds of tapeworms, that was gross!
